Player Version#: Plex Web 3.71.2
This seems to be an issue dating back all the way to 2011.
If you have TV Show files named like “MyShow S01E01-E02.mkv” it will only mark the first episode as played and it’ll leave the second episode as unplayed.
The problem with this is that the autoplay feature will continue with episode 2 instead of episode 3 as well, leading the plex server to play the exact same video again. As well as episode 2 showing up on the dashboard as where you left off.
This really should be fixed, especially given the age of this bug.
Just gonna bump this until the plex team finally acknowledges the issue and puts it on their TODO list.
You’d think 7 years of time would’ve been enough to fix it.
Note : Multi-episode files will show up individually in Plex apps when viewing your library, but playing any of the represented episodes will play the full file. If you want episodes to behave truly independently, you’re best off using a tool to split the file into individual episodes.
I don’t mind them showing up as individual files in the library, but it’s just retarded (for lack of a better word) that they don’t detect that it’s a multi file episode and mark it as such.
Being a developer myself I’m just stunned that nobody at the plex team thought of this or bothered to fix it.
Even if they handle it in a weird way, this issue has been existing for over 7 years by now. Which would’ve been plenty of time to come up with a fix or rewrite the code.
Basically what they did now is just say “its not a bug, its a feature”
