[bug] new player can't play stacked files

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3213
Player Version#: 8.4.2.19372

New player can’t play multi part movies or episodes properly.
For example I have:

House\Season 6\S06E01 - part 1.mkv
House\Season 6\S06E01 - part 2.mkv

This plays back properly on the web player, but not on my Shield ATV despite it showing a 90 minutes runtime on the episode summary. It will skip directly to episode 2 instead of hoping to S06E01 - part 2.

I can get it to play properly if I switch to the old player. It will just play correctly silently without doing anything so this is definitely a regression.

Episodes Split Across Multiple Files

Episodes that are split into several files (e.g. pt1, pt2), can be played back as a single file if named correctly. Name the files as follows:

  • /TV Shows/ShowName/Season 02/ShowName – s02e17 – Split_Name.ext

Where Split_Name is one of the following:

  • cdX
  • discX
  • diskX
  • dvdX
  • partX
  • ptX

…and you replace X with the appropriate number (cd1, cd2, etc.).

House\Season 6\S06E01 - part1.mkv
House\Season 6\S06E01 - part2.mkv

So you think the problem is the space in part 1? because it isn’t I already tried that, makes no difference

Put the show name in the episode file name (Plex naming convention). Also, part1, not part 1 (no space) as mentioned by Juice.

Modify the file names for all episodes in season 6.

/House/Season 06/House - s06e01 - part1.mkv
/House/Season 06/House - s06e01 - part2.mkv

After changing the names, Plex Dance the entire season.

Edit: As mentioned in the documentation, not all Plex clients support multi-file episodes. In the long run you’ll be better off combining the parts into one file. The process is very easy and very quick with MKVToolNix. No transcoding is performed. The two files are simply combined into one file.

That won’t work :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Doh! Thanks for catching it. Typo corrected.

/House/Season 06/House - s06e01 - part1.mkv
/House/Season 06/House - s06e01 - part2.mkv

I WAS going to suggest a proper file name, but already had a Gypsy Curse placed on me for suggesting a proper tag and didn’t want to test my Curse Armor - that’s a bit rusty…lol

Renaming the files doesn’t work.
I did read the documentation and as I said the old Android player works.

So I’m reporting this a a bug, or rather a regression.
