[BUG REPORT] Multi-part content fails with new player on NVIDIA Shield

Any news on this yet especially as you are promoting the use of the new player?

No news on this at this point in time

Wow another fix not looked at by Plex. Why is it I see loads of fox’s for items like dvr and other extra features. Surely core functionality should be a priority. I would say playing 2 part files on one of the top media players in the world would be at the top of the bug fix meetings
Come on Plex you really need to step up your game…

The new player would be incredible if this issue could be fixed as well as adding the end time (actual time) as it was in the old player.

Have some tv shows with a ton of extras and its very convenient to add the episode extras as -pt2, -pt3.

Its the same way the WDTV Live team operated for years. User issues were disregarded and useless features were continuously added.

A great plex-pass feature might be to allow a monthly forum poll where user-submitted issues/suggestions are voted on by plex-pass users and the winning issue assigned to a plex team to actually be fixed/coded into the next update.

Now that would be worth paying for.

I’m experiencing this as well. Very annoying in that it used to work.

The same problem on Sony Bravia Andriod TV. It worked fine with multipart movies before the PLEX server was upgraded from 1.18.x to 1.19.x, and then stopped working after that.

Though it detects all parts and shows the total time, it only plays the first part, without any option to play or force to any of the further parts of multipart movie. ā€œNextā€ button is grayed out.

Plex client versions: 8.0.x, 8.1.1.18050 (latest)
Plex server versions: 1.19.2589, 1.19.1.2701, 1.19.3.2852 (latest)

As others suggested, have you tried disabling the new player when playing 2 part vids? I just disabled on my aftv and it’s working. Obviously not ideal as the new player tends to be better but a quick workaround until they fix the bug in the new player

@EderEdom Wow, respect! Indeed switching to the old player fixed the problem. Somehow I didn’t see this suggestion while doing a search.

No problem! I think i saw one or two people quickly mention it so it was easy to pass over

Still no update on this? This is a pretty serious bug with the new player, so I would have thought that it would be a priority for the developers.

Same problem. Half a year and this bug is still going? For real?

Additional problems are popping up with the new player.,

Is there any more progress from???

It seems that they don’t care about this EXTREMELY-important bug. This bug absolutely breaks PLEX at this point, as enabling ā€œold playerā€ causes PLEX to crash each time I try to launch anything now. I can no longer even do the workaround, so this bug is CRITICAL.

PLEX EMPLOYEES: PLEASE ADDRESS THIS BUG

Is there any news on this yet? I have a lot of multi-part content, and none of it can be played at this point. Enabling the old player just causes PLEX to crash immediately if I try to play anything, and the new player cannot play anything but the first part.

Please escalate this issue to, well, whoever you can… this is really a critical issue.

Thank you!

I don’t have anything at this time, if I had any news, I’d share it if I could

Just want to add that it is not just limited to NVIDIA Shield.
@DaveBinM can you disclose some of the ratio behind this? Is it a bug? Is it the first step of dropping multi-file support? As playback of content is affected, do you see this as priority?

In addition to the Nvidia Shield, I have seen this issue on multiple Roku’s (ultra and sticks) and on a Samsung Smart TV. The only place I have seen it work is in the plex web player.

Thank you for the information.

Maybe we can actually get someone at PLEX to take this seriously. They already have our money, so they really don’t seem to care. This critical bug means nothing to them. I appreciate DaveBinM and BigWheel replying on the thread, but I really wish that the developers would take this issue seriously.
