[BUG REPORT] Multi-part content fails with new player on NVIDIA Shield

As far as dropping support goes, I’m not aware of any plans to drop support for multi-part content. As for priority, it’s still in our queue. My personal views do not solely change the priority of an item within the queue

That’s good to know. I did not expect a quick fix.
But people a sensitive if playback is not working - much more than they are if some UI glitch is disturbing their sense of harmony.
But thank you. It is good to know, that this is not a lost case.

I just wanted to bump this topic. It wasn’t an issue for me, but my wife wants to know why she can’t watch the second half of Twilight. I know, it’s a ■■■■ movie and I don’t give a ■■■■, but I try to make her happy. I just told her that it’s because Twilight sucks and she should find better things to watch.

Also want to chime in here and say that I am still having the multi part playback issues occur as well. The movie I’m watching is an anthology, split into parts, only the first part of the film plays.

Yes, reverting to the old player works, but that is only a temporary fix.

Another person being hit by this over-a-year-old bug now as I revisit ancient movies. I’d posted in another thread that search showed up, but seems like this is the only one an employee has actually noticed…

I gave up waiting for this to get fixed. Luckily the majority of the multipart movies I have are in MKV file format. So I downloaded the MKVtoolnix app and combined the files into one large file.

Some of my movies are not MKV. I just re-ripped them and combined them. It was easier and faster. And way better for my sanity.

I ran into the same issue. For some additional data, when I play a multi-part file on either the web or Roku client it works correctly and moves to the second part no problem. If I then run the Android (NVidia Shield, in my case) client it correctly reports the resume time, which is in the second part, but if I try to actually resume from there it just sits and spins. So the Plex server is correctly handling the time information and sending it to the client, but the Android client is simply unable to load the second part.

Additionally, I want to shout out to Ryuzaki_2 above for the suggestion about the MKVtoolnix program. For the critical content I wanted to have available I was able to re-rip it in MKV format and combine into a single file. However, I don’t want to have to rely on that process and would prefer that the bug actually get fixed, which doesn’t strike me as too difficult, given that it used to work on Android, and still works on other clients.

Same issue as evereyone else in Shield and android phone. Im trying to watch the new Lord of the rings Trilogy in 4k HDR and can only view first half. Not sure if combining and converting with MKVtoolnix would degrade quality, I have files ripped from Blue- Ray.

I also started watching the new 4k LOTR set freshly ripped and bam… Movie only plays first part. How is this over a year old bug and still not fixed? Man and all the times I praise plex to all my friends and atm I’m disappointed :disappointed_relieved:

I strongly recommend that approach.

Note that MKVToolNix can join many non-MKV source file types, too, so don’t let that be an obstacle.

[HowTo]: joining multi-part movies files with MKVtoolnix GUI

It does not. It doesn’t perform any re-encoding of the media, just copies/remuxes the streams into a new container.

I have the exact same issue with 4k LOTR. WHen will this be fixed?

The article says no quality will be lost, since this is only a Remux:
“The quality of the files will remain the same, because mkvtoolnix only remuxes the files, it doesn’t re-encode them.”

Same here. The only ones I had to re rip were LOTR and The Hobbit movies, and some older DVDs I had that were split into two DVDs. Basically like 10 movies total. So not that big of deal for me.

Tried out the new 4K Lord of The Rings FOTR DV-Atmos version last night, everything worked as expected except the multi-part playback which is documented throughout this thread.

I decided to take a break at the halfway mark where the movie splits files, so have not tested the old player, however I presume the old player is not DV compatible which would make the workaround somewhat inferior to the supposed “new” player’s features.

Can we get a fix to this more than 1 year old problem please?

It seems the problem still persists.
It would be so great to have this fixed :upside_down_face:

And I already tried MKVToolNIX and I just can’t for the love of it seem to get working video files out of MKVToolNIX regardless of which of my multipart movies I try to remux.
Even when just remuxing a single part the video gets corrupted badly while audio is working fine.
All my files are DVD or BluRay rips made using MakeMKV with all the same properties.
So it seems I am bound to watching any multipart movies (LOTR 4K :sob: ) on my PC instead of my TV…

This bug made it into the actual non-beta version

It’s pretty sad that I see this problem was introduced over a year ago and it still hasn’t been fixed. Also sad to see idiots blaming beta testers for glaring bugs in their code making it into a final release.

Thanks for pinging me after a year.

You deserve recognition

Oh cool.
You really made me feel special.
Imagine how special I would feel if I still actually used Plex.
