Plex showed 83 channels when scanning but only 34 channels when finishing it’s scan. It’s shown in the pictures included
I’m not really sure why this is happening. Is there anything I can do to fix this? The channels aren’t DRM encrypted, because my 5 year old TV is picking them up. The plex server is even getting channels like HBO, so it doesn’t make sense why it wouldn’t be getting channels like CNN, TBS, AMC, etc. The tuner also picks up these channels without problem with the WinTv software.
Thanks.
edit: included logs and pictures in my first post.
Are some of those channels analog (NTSC) instead of digital (ATSC)? TVs will scan / display both but Plex will only work with unencrypted digital channels.
So I did some digging and you may need to contact Hauppage to verify this because I couldn’t find any specs one way or the other to confirm if this was the issue or not…
BUT this document (found via Google) mentions that not all QAM tuners are the same. Specifically it states:
“It is important that you check your television’s specifications sheet to determine if it has a QAM-256 tuner. Analog TV and even some HD models, may have a QAM-64 tuner that may not pick up all digital channels. This can result in poor picture quality, missing channels or missing audio.”
I can’t say if this is the issue or not but is probably worth tracking down… you need to find out if the Hauppauge WinTV-DualHD tuner is QAM-256 capable or not…
P.S. In case you don’t click through on the document link, it’s a document by Elauwit Networks.
If it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be able to play through Hauppauge’s application. But I’m able to play every single channel that I receive through cable with their software and tuner.

Sounds like it’s time gather/post some server logs.
Clicked next (didn’t want to add stuff to the logs if possible, I know I skipped adding 14 channels~)
Took a final screenshot
It doesn’t look like the server even logged that the amount of channels went down.
Edit: I’ve tried completely uninstalling Plex, and deleting everything in the AppData folder related to Plex. That didn’t fix this issue either. On a new scan after installing the newest version of Plex, it still found 83, but only displayed 34 when finished.
This issue still isn’t solved. Only replying again because this post says I have answers that I haven’t responded to, but I’ve already checked them all as not solved
This issue still exists. If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated. Or if this is an issue with Plex and I need to provide more information, just let me know.
I’m having the exact same thing happening. I’m using the WinTV-QuadHD card. It scans and finds ~230 channels but when it finishes and i put my Zip in i get 16. Many of the channels show as encrypted. But there are several that aren’t showing as encrypted and there is no channel label for Plex in the drop downs so i can’t manually allow them. Not really helping solve the problem here but at least you know it’s not just you.

What does your drop down list look like? Are they listed but greyed out? Or are they just not listed at all?
Also have now tried completely uninstalling WinTv 8.5, installing the drivers, then removing the Plex database and re-scanning channels. It’s still failing. And even some of the channels found, are broken/not mapped correctly. (which isn’t an issue with the EPG, because these channels are mapped correctly on WinTv 8.5 [which just uses the raw channel name])
