BUG: Search is faulty

Bug 1: First of, if I use the search, and I wish to find something in the Guide, I have to have selected the guide before I search. It will not search the Guide otherwise.
Bug 2: The search in the guide is faulty, this is tested with the word københavn, it will not find it in all airings.

This search is IN the guide for the word københavn

This search is IN the guide for the word f.c., as you can see an extra airing is found.

Finally the last search for københavn, but this time from the Home screen, no results found from the guide.

1 - That is by design. The quick search (the drop down you see) does not look in the guide unless you are in the guide.
2 - The results shown in quick search only list the first 3 results. You need to click on “show more” to get to the page with more results.

Do you get meaningful results if you search for k0benhavn instead? (that’s a zero in there)
If you do, then that’s a bug which has been reported already.

That’s gives another weird result. So that’s just compounding the problem.!
This is searched from within the guide

And there it finds some results again.

  1. Why?
  2. I see, I haven’t seen that mentioned anywhere.
So taken the reply from 1) into consideration, searching when being in the guide, shows the results from the guide at the bottom of the expanded result? Simply illogical. But it does show all the københavn in the result. So I guess they are not bugs, just odd design decisions and poor HCI design.

It is clear that the dvr function is a function cluttered into Plex, and not a native part, which gives a less than perfect overall experience.

Your screenshot shows a normal search result, as far as I can recognize.

It’s still weird that it for some reason says that 0 and ø is the same???

Yes, this is the bug that is already filed.

Ok I was going to make a new topic but saw this thread.

@OttoKerner can you link me to the bug that has been filed? Just want to check if my issue is included in the search problems.

According to the Program Guide Support Article, searching the guide does not require one to be in the guide.

If you’re already in the Guide, the quick search results will be from Guide content.

Does that not imply that you can also search while OUT of the guide?

Also searching the guide does not appear to be working. Here are a few issues(and I apologize if some of these bugs are actually features not implemented. I’ve played with both Plex and Emby):

  1. Searching for an actual tv channel:

  1. Searching for a program outside of the guide:
Seems to work for shows that are currently cached in the guide.

But for something later in time the search won’t come up. I would give an example but when I go into the future on the guide, the results automatically cache on the server so then when I go to search the results come up.

Sorry, the bug tracker is not publicly accessible.

Ok. Can you let me know if my issues would be a new bug or if they were already reported?

You cannot search for channel names, AFAIK.

It is expected that the search bar only shows results from the EPG of you are actually on the EPG.

Ok sorry. Searching a channel name was a feature of Emby and for some reason since Plex has been around longer I thought it would include it (Plex and Emby seem to be main competitors to one another). I suppose we can do a feature request to allow searching for an actual channel from the EPG?

EDIT: Once a user clicks on a matching channel, Plex takes the user to a channel overview. And it can’t be that much of a guessing game. Here’s some examples (taken from Emby)

Result matching a channel

Click on channel and you can see what the schedule is for said channel

Plex often doesn’t have actual channel names. Only what comes from Gracenote as the name of the channel which is often a guessing game.

I don’t know if forums notify of post edits but see above edit.
