ok, so I try and beat the Plex drum anytime I can. super cool software, great for cord cutters. but when I come across some things in the application, it just leaves me scratching my head.
I’m running Plex on a Synology NAS. I have a Plex Pass, and use a SiliconDust HDPrime, using a cablecard. When I go into the live tv and dvr function and bring up the guide, I want to find what channels have football on today. As you can see in the screenshot, I am searching for ‘nfl’ and right below it in the grid is ‘NFL Football’ - but the search yields no match. For such a great software solution, please help me understand why this happens. Quite frustrating.
From what I can tell, the Live TV & DVR search only searches your recordings. I have not found it to search the listings. Does anyone have any different experience or knowledge?
Yes, it does search listings, but I do believe you have to be under Live TV & DVR for it to do so. So, if you pull up the guide and search, it should work.
As for @jeffrutland’s problem, when I run a search for NFL, I only seem to be getting results for shows like NFL Live and NFL pregame shows, not the specific games. Looks like you’re getting nothing, not sure why.
Thanks, Noah. I just tried it again and it worked. It may have been a bug in a previous version, may have been something in the Android client, or maybe I was searching from the wrong page. (Although it should search listings from any page)
I will keep testing and see if I can find any other issues like original poster.
it’s kind of cut off in my screenshot, but I am indeed in ‘Live TV and DVR’ - that’s how the guide is rendering there. using the search function in Plex always seems a bit underwhelming - shows aren’t found, then sometimes they are… and why can I not search by channel? that never makes sense to me. does anyone know this?
I just had a strange search experience – was under the “Live TV & DVR” tab searching for an upcoming show. It did not show up when I used the search, but I was able to manually go to the broadcast day and time and the guide data was there for the item in question. After marking it to record and then attempted the search two more time and it didn’t show up in the results.
Ten minutes later I come back and try the search again, and it came up fine. I don’t know if the search relies on some data to sync locally or what, but it definitely was not there 10 minutes prior, and then it was.
Also tried it on my phone and it’s not finding it there at all. The Android App is definitely lagging behind the Web UI.
