I have 16GB Shield, I noticed a problem with recordings failing with “not enough disk space”. I had used the Storage Location setting to move PMS to External storage, so I was confused. I then went to the setting to check it and could not find the Storage Location setting.
Finally I was able to get your instructions to work. I had to revert back to factory and update via the play store again. Then followed your steps and it is working!
Trying to make sense of the issue so I can see if we can repo, but I must say I am a bit confused so if you guys can clarify a few things that would be great.
You’re saying the not enough disk space comes from trying to record something correct?
Where is the recordings Library pointed to!? This should be checking the size of that and it should be affected by the size of pms database /metadata unless they are saving to the same device and that device doesn’t have the space.
When you change the pms storage dir you’re just moving the pms database, metadata etc (plexdata dir) but not the media it self, in fact media might even be on a smb share.
So that said can you confirm where are you saving the recordings to? Could it be that this is saving to the
Yes that is what started happening after I updated to 1.15.8.1126.
My TV Shows Library, where the recordings are stored, is a 8 TB USB 3.0 device with 4 TB of free space. This is also where I moved the PMS storage to.
Looking over my setting I also notices that I set “Convert Video While Recording” to “Transcode” under the HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO Device Settings.
What I saw happening was during recordings the local 16 GB space of the shield would start being consumed. One short 30 minute show by it’s self would work, but larger or even multiple shows being recorded would cause the not enough disk space error.
One workaround was to set the Transcoder setting Temporary Directory to my 8 TB USB drive. That fixed the not enough disk space error.
For better performance I bought a USB 3.0 512 GB SSD and added is to the Shield as Internal Storage. I then deleted the Transcoder setting Temporary Directory effectively moving the transcoding to the SSD . This also fixed the not enough disk space error.
With the added SSD as Internal Storage, I was also able to move PMS to the Internal Storage (user) location to get another boost in metadata/fan art loading.
So I’m not sure what caused the not enough disk space error. Maybe when I set “Convert Video While Recording” to “Transcode” under the HDHomeRun CONNECT DUO Device Settings.
This is normal, and yes what caused it is that since you’re using Convert Video While Recordingthe Transcoder Temporary Directory needs space and this will depend on the size of the recording, so you might see it in some cases, possibly most cases in the 16GB SHIELD.
As you noticed you can change the Transcoder Temporary Directory to something with more space (which is a good idea for the 16GB SHIELD and particularly if you’re using this option for recordings). Alternatively you can stop using that option and just let it save the original recordings, in fact maybe you don’t even need it, what streams do you get from you DVR? is it h264? If so there’s really not a big advantage on using such option, and that way you only need space in the final destination.
I was trying to get rid of Block noise on one of my channels, which I do not see on my Android phone, but do see on the Shield and Web Client. Maybe a topic for another thread if even a problem with Plex.
Yes, Live and recorded only on CBS. It’s over the air local signal. Using the Hdhomerun Signal Meter for Android I get 100% signal strength, SNR quality and Sym Quality, but yet get these blocks on motion like panning left or right.
I have the Samsung S9 phone and when watching CBS Plex Live TV or recorded on this device, I do not see any block noise. This is with using Shield as the server. Maybe all the data is there, but the cell phone app is dropping the bad frames and masking it. Just a thought.
I’m not sure but this might be a HDHomerun issue. Do you have any ideas how I can determine if this is a Plex issue or a HDHomerun issue?
Last night I installed VLC and HDHomeRun Setup desktop application on my PC. Clicking on the CBS channel in the HDHomeRun Setup program opens VLC. I still see the Block noise viewing with VLC, so looks to be a HDHomeRun issue or bad compression from the local CBS channel. Do you concur?
Even if the signal is 100%, one other option that I see myself is that even with 100% my spliter seems to have some issue and I get similar effects on 1 or 2 channels (but I acautlly see the same in my bedroom TV connected directly and started after I added the splier, I’m waiting for a new one to see if the issue goes away.
But if you have the option you could try to see if this channel play fine on a TV via the same connection.
In my case If I remove the spliter both the TV or HDHomerun work flawlessly so I’m sure that is the issue.
That said its clearly not an Nvidia PMS issue, since you see the same in VLC.
What kind of tuner are you using? Also please note there is a difference between signal strength and signal quality. It could be that your signal is too strong and could be over driving the tuner which causes the saturation that you’re seeing. If you using an HDHomerun, go to the web interface and note what your signal quality and strength are when it occurs again.
Why has this latest update been allowed to be released into the wild without fixing the issue of "storage location setting " missing.
This has nothing to do with recording or transcoding or where my media resides.
In fact plex seems to running and working fine other than the ability to move my metadata databases etc.
I have tried Polen’s workaround without success.
