Bug: Stuttering when playing media content at 23.976 fps

Server Version#: 1.43.0.10467
Player Version#: 10.30.8.4222
All media files I have tried so far that have 23.976 fps are stuttering. I can’t say 100% whether it always stutter at a certain interval, but I would almost say no. Sometimes the image lags briefly after 4 minutes, sometimes after 2. Movies and series with 24 or 25 fps have no problem. All files are played back via Direct Stream. The device is connected via Ethernet. According to the overlay, no frames are dropped.

I use a Google TV streamer, and frame rate matching is enabled in the Android settings. I have also enabled frame rate matching in the Plex settings. The TV switches correctly to 23.976Hz, I have checked this. I’ve actually always had this problem on the Google TV streamer. Is this a known bug?

I have already tested the following:

  • Frame rate matching disabled in Plex > also random stuttering
  • Passthrough disabled > nothing changed
  • Tested another Plex server (completely different hardware)
  • Reinstalled the Plex app
  • Reset the Google TV streamer to factory settings
  • Tested Jellyfin > runs without any problems

I hope you have an idea, thank you very much.

Hi, I just want to say you are not alone.
I have exactly the same issue and performed the same workarounds. Nothing fixed it.

I have Google TV Streamer 4K, a 65S92C Samsung TV and tried everything that you did except testing out Jellyfin. I’ll give it a try if you say that it works. It’s a pity, because I am a Plex Pass user, paid the lifetime license, and now this stuttering problem is making me crazy.

Thank you so much. Even though it’s silly, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one. I have a Lifetime Pass too, so it’s really a shame there doesn’t seem to be a solution for this.

I’ve since switched completely to Jellyfin and use the Jellyfin client Wholphin on my TV. The interface is similar to Plex—maybe it’s something for you too. I’m very happy with it.
