I have been using subtitles forever & with my Chromecast with Google TV this started happening maybe a month or 2 ago. I have been waiting for an update to fix it, but to no avail. But for me it was working correctly until very recently. I tried the change to Image Only, problem still persists, change back to Auto, nothing has changed.
As a workaround I have, for the time being, implemented a system, the subtitles that I will be using, not the ones I have in case someone needs them, are labeled Movie or Show.ENG.vtt or Movie or Show.ENG.forced.vtt while the others are labeled Movie or Show.z.ARA.vttMovie or Show.z.RUSvttetc. I have found that sometimes without the . before the z it would work, but other times it didnāt. but WITH the .z. it works every time & keeps the one I want at the Top. The Problem still needs to be fixed, but this at least is a workaround that makes it usable without removing everything except what you want
Around the same time, a little before I believe, I started running into the problem that sometimes when Iām playing something with subtitles enabled before I start, if a preroll starts before it Plex on Chromecast will exit. Removing the subs & enabling them once started fixes it, but maybe they are related since they started around the same time?
Just a Note: I actually like this workaround as it allows me to sort the order of how they display in the list so even after this issue is fixed I will probably continue to use it, maybe more so, Putting say Spanish as .h.SPA so it shows up after ENG & French as .j.FRE so it shows nextā¦
Just installed the Beta on Chromecast with Google TV & the problem is NOT solved. It no longer shows the 1st Alphabetical subtitle no matter what is selected, instead now if anything but the 1st is selected it shows nothing.
Correction: Some titles work properly, others show nothing
I have same issue here! All of a sudden i canāt play my Indonesian subtitle (ID), i usually keep EN and ID, and it always show EN subtitle everytime i play movie on my android TV and android devices. But works fine if i try from desktop browser.
Same here with Nvidia Shield running the beta version. I still canāt believe such an ancient feature got broken and takes forever to fix it. For those who are looking for a workaround without messing around by renaming their subtitles can try Plex Kodi Connect with Kodi.
I just tested with ~4 random movies, and ~4 random tvshows and it seems to be working in all.
A mix of external srt + external srt, built in + srt, built in + built in subtitles.
Not fixed for me (nVidia Shield with Plex 9.3 or 9.4-beta).
I have tried with several .mkv files with an english subtitle (ASS) and a french subtitle (SRT) included.
If I select the french one (itās really french, Iāve tested with VLC), the english subtitle is played.
If I ask Plex player to download a french external SRT (OpenSubtitle), itās downloaded and correctly integrated.
