BUG: Subtitles Defaulting ON Despite Disabling Them

Please help me - the subtitles are defaulting to ON in my content despite disabling them in Account > Audio & Subtitle Settings > Disabling “Automatically select audio and subtitle tracks”. I’ve also tried enabling that setting and setting to English language, English subtitles, and “Auto-select subtitle mode” to both “Manually Selected” and “Shown with Foreign Audio”. In all of these situations, subtitles still appear. I’m so frustrated. This is across Web, Mobile, and Smart TV.

Any time you make a change, try a file you haven’t tried before. I think Plex can get sticky, so if you watched a movie even for a short time it will “remember” what subtitle you used, and use that instead of the automatic selection.

Look into your files as well, check to see what language track they are listed as, and whether the “Forced” flag is also set. “Forced” is a subtitle term for a track that should display even if you tell your player you want subtitles “Only with foreign audio”. If this track is set, and you turn on “Only with foreign Audio”, then the Forced track that is the same language as your audio track will still show.
