Hi there!
I got some kind of bug, I think. Some of thumbnails for movies in my library won’t load (black square). But at the same time there is correct “matching” founded and specified for it. Match windows shows correct “poster” for thumbnail (so I think that server is able to download it from matching metadata servers).
Tied to update metadata for movie and for whole library. No visible changes.
Tied to “Fix match…” , “Unmatch” and “Match” again. On “Unmatch” for some movies thumbnails shows random snapshot from movie. When use “Match” - again show black square.
I think that fix was there: Plex Media Server - #601 by drzoidberg33 but seems that it was something else. Also I did not find Issue tracker to check that there may be other similar bugs…
Can someone help me to troubleshoot this issue and fix it if on my side, or @tag someone who can fix it if it on Plex side?
You didn’t say on what device you’re viewing, but if it’s only one doing it, clear the cache of your app/browser.
Thank you for your answer, here is some updates of my env.
I’m using my browser and connection to Plex Server via https://app.plex.tv/. The same behavior if I try to browse Plex Server via local connection (e.g. http://synology:32400/)
My OS: Windows 10 22H2 (19045.3448)
My browser: Google Chrome 117.0.5938.89 (and other versions before)
My other browser: MS Edge 117.0.2045.47
My Synology version is: DSM 7.2 Update 3
And yes, I tried to clear my host metadata (e.g. change browsers, clear their caches, cookies, etc)
Try emptying the trash optimizing the db
Empty Trash - you mean go to Library → Manage Library → Empty Trash? Ok, it was done, but I thought that it used for deleted content via Plex Server… I don’t use Plex to delete content - make it in Explorer.
How I can run Optimizing DB? E.g. Settings → Some menu item → Etc.
No that’s not what trash does.
Now go to settings, manage, troubleshooting - do clean bundles and optimize db
Sorry for long time to reply.
Clean bundles - Check
Optimize DB - Check
After this I had cleaned cache in my browser and go to library and run “Manage Library - Refresh all metadata”. After this I still have some broken thumbnails (movie posters).
Also I had tied to “Unmatch” and “Match” movie again. “Unmatch” - Plex show random still (frame) from the movie, “Match” - again black square.
And as last try I got “Unmatch”, Clean Bundles and Optimize DB, “Match” again - and here I got a random still (frame) from the movie instead of movie poster.
Seems that Clean Bundles clears only unused ones… Have Plex any ability to remove all metadata and force to update it without deleting whole library?
Do a ‘fix match’ and shows us a pic of what it shows
Here is 2 examples:
First show random still (frame) from the movie instead of movie poster:
Second show black square instead of movie poster:
Copy the files off the server. Delete them from plex. Copy them back in
I tried to move all movies (my Library contains 280 movies) from one folder to another. Plex detect that library was empty and I had clean all metadata (Library → Manage Library → Empty Trash, Settings → Manage → Troubleshooting → Clean bundles and Optimize DB).
After that I had moved all files back to Library folder.
For first time it resolve problem with several affected movies… But at closer look problem was appeared for other movies not affected before. I thought that I may DDoS metadata server when my Plex was asked to update 280 metadata requests, so after a while I moved all files out library and start to move it back again in portions of 25 movies, but it did not helped.
Also I noticed that if one Movie was matched incorrectly and if I tird to “Fix match…” Movie poster did not changes too (new one appears in preview of “Fix match…” window, but did not changes in library).
You probably aren’t naming the files correctly.
Almost everytime it’s only english name of the movie and year (e.g. “John Wick (2014).mkv”), sometime it’s include series name (e.g. “Marvel 3.01 - Captain America 3 - Civil War (2016).mkv”).
Anyway most movies automatched correctly even if it’s include series name.
Also I have russian UI, so when movie is unmatched it has name in english. When I manually “Match” it name changes, but thumbnail (poster) not.
Also I tied to change UI language to English. It’s not helped.
May be we can try to look in server logs some where? Did you know where to search macthing logs, “server to server” iteractions?
Hi, all!
Do you have any other suggestion what is happen, or how I can troubleshot this issue?
And from this point it can be troubleshooted, e.g. this can be showed somewhere in logs as 4XX or 5XX HTTP errors or smht like “Gateway Timeout” if there is network block of IP pool.
Any way it seems that it is not primary reason because of that all metadata was cleared (Library → Manage Library → Empty Trash, Settings → Manage → Troubleshooting → Clean bundles and Optimize DB) and after this almost all movie posters was Matched and showed correctly.
How we can confirm that there is something is blocking access to MovieDB?
