Server Version#: 1.26.1.5798 and 1.26.2.5797-5bd057d2b from plexinc/pms-docker
Player Version#: official app.plex.tv and Plex web player included in the server, both used on latest Safari version available
Hardware setup:
unRaid 6.10.1
Intel i5-10400 (not passed to container)
RTX 3060Ti (passed to container using --runtime=nvidia --gpus all for CUDA and the proper vars)
32Gb Ram
Transcoding is done in a tmpfs
Hello,
I encountered a very weird and specific issue while testing my Plex server to make sure everything was setup for remote play. When transcoding both 4K DoVI (with HDR10 fallback) and 4K HDR HEVC 10bit content with HDR tonal map enabled, which, according to this article: HDR to SDR Tone Mapping | Plex Support should be possible as CUDA is properly passed to the container, the transcode throttles at 0.8x speed on some clients.
It is not an issue with concurrent streams as I have disabled the limit on my GPU and it’s not an issue with processing power as my card can transcode about 25 4K stream to h264. Also, I do not have this issue with Jellyfin.
On reddit someone mentioned that it could be an issue with the player and yes, it is. When using Plex desktop or Plex for iOS on both Mac and iPhone, the transcode sits at a comfortable 9.2x speed. Same thing with the Xbox player, no issue whatsoever and the transcode is still at a 9.2x speed. The issue arises only in the Plex web player.
Thanks for your help !
