[BUG / UI GLITCH] Settings missing in Fire-TV Plex app side menu

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2740
Player Version#: 8.0.0…

In the most recent version of the Android-based Plex player app, the player setting has got its own entry in the side menu. Before, it had been hidden behind the user icon, now the settings can be accessed by scrolling down in the side menu to “settings”.

But…
While browing the main menu or visiting the side menu from within gallery view of a library, everything is fine.

But you go to the side menu from within an inidivdual playlist or from a movie preplay screen, then the “settings” side menu entry is missing and cannot be accessed.

Why is this a problem?

Just to mention one real life example:

Starting a movie from a playlist does not show a movie’s preplay screen (therefore, the pre-chosen subtitle format of a movie cannot be seen). If some of your movies have ASS subtitles and some other movies have SRT, for example, then the new playback engine throws an error instead of starting a playback of the movie, if the “burning in subtitle” setting is not valid (automatic or “graphic subtitles only”) for the pre-chosen subtitle format.

If the error is thrown, then the user needs to go to subtitle settings and change the above-mentioned setting from automatic to grpahical only or vice-versa.

As playback has not started, the movie has no marker for Recently played and does not get chosen for Suggestion screen of main screen or a library.

If you experience this from within a playlist, you have to go back to main menu, then choose side bar, go to settings, change the setting, go back to Playlist, choose the playlist, scroll it to start the movie again.

Likeweise if you exerience the error from starting a movie from a movie’s Preplay. screen. If you visit the side menu directly from that Preplay screen, no settings are available. You need to go back to main menu, go to side menu, scroll to settings and choose it, change the setting, go back to main menu, go to library, scroll the whole library to find the movie again which threw the error due to wrong subtitle format setting.

I had opportunities where I was forced to do so and when I finally was back in the library, I had fogotten the movie title. I chose another movie and got a playback error due to wrong subtitle settings (the newly chosen movie had a different subtitle format).

WTH.

The settings menu must be available under all circumstances in the side menu.

And please finally go find a way of fixing that subtitle handling of Plex player app.

I noticed the same thing.

knock, knock
Dear Plexies… any acknoledgement?

Any comments? Any Plexie with a look into this? Don’t you see this as a problem? Not much of a problem for you? Already on your list? Don’t understand a word? Need photos?

Plex, could we please get some acknowledgement here? I reported this problem on April 30 and was also ignored. While on the one hand you have made settings easier to access by making Settings its own item on the side menu, the truth is that Settings is now harder to access than it’s ever been since it’s often missing from the side menu. We go to the trouble of navigating to item we want to play, realize that we need to change some settings, and we then have to navigate all the way out of the item back to the main screen, access settings and then navigate back to the play item. How is this better? For anyone? Please respond, letting us know if this is a bug that will eventually be fixed.

Given the extreme glitchiness of the android app over the past 4 months, I find that I have to change quality settings all the time, based on the encoding attributes of the item to be played. And if you don’t change the settings before starting to play, you’ll get the “An error occurred … please restart server and app” 10 times before you can get play to start.

Please make it easier to access the app’s settings…
