My system is currently physically recording 2 shows; using 2 tuners of my HDHomerun (max 3 tuners). However the Plex UI shows that it is using 4 tuners (of my max 3) and is causing for shows to not be recorded.
I have attached the Plex server logs showing the failed recordings:
Jan 25, 2018 19:35:33.110 [11880] DEBUG - DVR:Grabber: Going to record for 1467 seconds, final URL is http://192.168.2.101:5004/auto/v1005

I’m having a similar issue, sometimes it will ask me to choose what to stop recording/watching in order to allow me to watch live TV, however I can see from the tuner status that there are 2 free tuners, while plex sees 4 in use.
PMS version: 1.11.3.4803
Windows 10
HD Homerun Prime Firmware: 20170930
This issue is happening to me right now. Only 1 show is being actually recorded and I am unable to watch Live TV because the Plex Media Server believes there are 4 tuners in use. (See attached screenshot and log files)
(Settings -> Live TV & DVR)
3 tuners—4 recording now
Log of “last” tuner being allocated despite 3 being actually free (according to HD HomeRUn)

I haven’t checked the logs for this but I have seen it in practice from time to time. In fact I suspect it can be easily invoked. I’ve seen it happen when I am in the web interface and start live TV. When in the Web interface I usually right click the guide entry and open a new window to play LiveTV (Chrome browser). If I close the window when done, rather then click the “X” at the lower right (near the volume button) the tuners might stay engaged.
This becomes apparent to me sometimes due to an error message when trying to view TV again but it also can become known due to seeing the activity LED on the SiliconDust HDHomerRun Prime.
That is to say that one, two or possibly all three tuners may actually be in use rather then some bug indicating that the tuner is in use when it is not.
I have this issue constantly as of the past few versions as well. I basically have to restart Plex every evening before i want to actually watch TV, as it will fail to play live TV or record until I do. I have a Supported HDHomeRun Connect (2 tuners) so i basically can tune “twice” before im out of tuners and need to reboot since they never clear/reset.
I primarily use a Roku device to watch live TV and do DVR from my Windows Based plex server.
Lately been rebooting daily
Plex DVR Settings shows right now an impossible: 2 tuners—3 recording now
No Transcode processes running on my server, no network bandwidth being used either to indicate any transcode is happening at all.
My logs are attached. I JUST finished recording a show prior to these logs being taken, and based on previous behavior, im 99% certain my next show will fail to record because plex is (impossibly) showing more tuners in use than exist on my server.
Once i reboot plex, ill be fine for 2 tuner “uses” whether starting 2 channels, or 2 dvr recordings, or one of each…
Thanks for the feedback! It’s good (i guess) to know that I am not the only person with this problem. @Octavean pertaining to your comment … I thought what you suggested might be the case. That the HD HomeRun was actually tuned to channels even when there was no client using them. However when I view the HD HomeRun UI it says that none of my tuners are in use like @sdjason.
Hopefully the logs we are providing will help resolve this issue as its really annoying to constantly have to “check on” PMS to ensure that it has enough tuners for upcoming recordings.
Has anyone seen this lately. In the most recent PMS (version: 1.12.1.4885) i have not seen this issue . I am going to keep watching for this problem but am interested to hear other people’s reports.

Yes, I’ve seen this problem, same version. New to Plex DVR, but noticed today after missed recordings that the tuner status is Plex listed 2 tuners, 3 shows recording.
