[BUG] Video resolution on meta info inaccurate for PAL DVD's

Server Version#: 4.12.3
Player Version#: irrelevant

Pal DVD’s have a vertical resolution of 576, my media files are done as such with handbrake, no cropping. However plex meta info on the first movie screen with the artwork etc seems to mandate that every movie is 480p. If i click on “request information”, the “video resolution” correctly states 576p

Why does the main screen say 1 resolution and the media information another?

Welcome to Plex.

(in time - you’ll get used to it)

I’m long passed ‘welcome’, been using it for a while now. This is an annoying bug that needs to fixed. Since Plex can see it’s actually 576p, it should also be able to display it properly.

Complete guess and speculation, here…

At one time (maybe even now) Roku player required the resolution supplied by Plex in the “pre-play” screen AND the quality set by the user for quality. If the resolution was higher than the quality setting (ex: 480p at 1.5 Mbps) a 576 p file would not direct play without transcoding simply because the resolution was 576. It didn’t matter that the bitrate was actually below 1.5 Mbps.

In other words, a 576p video encoded at 1.5 Mbps would not direct play on a Roku if the user had the quality set to 480p at 1.5Mbps (there is no 576p option in quality on any app, as far as I know) It’s kind of a work around to accommodate Rokus

At one point in time, Plex reversed the way they are now, and all 480p videos were displayed as 576p. And that made the quality setting basically non-functional. It all came to light in a thread about the wrong resolutions being displayed on Plex a few years ago.
