I’m not really surprised. The Plex devs have been ignoring bug posts for years (for as long as I remember).
They’ll keep updating the app and adding features no one asks for though…
I am adding my frustration regarding this bug to the list, and keeping the thread alive.
Lifetime Plex Pass subscriber here, and this bug is really annoying. As stated above, notifications are off for Plex in the app settings. Yet this still occurs. This is the real bug - no notifications means NO NOTIFICATIONS.
Yes, navigating to the offending movie/show/whatever and marking as Unplayed and then back to Played makes it go away, but this should not be necessary.
Please fix it…
I have the same issue. Android TV on Nvidia shield. See the notification on Android home screen every time I exit the Plex app. It shows the last thing I was watching as if it’s still playing with two options: open and stop. Why does it appear? The media is no longer being played. This is clearly a bug.
I have this issue on both the Sony Android TV and the Shield TV (2019). I did notice that it seems to be with movies/shows that utilized the frame rate switching. Anything that I’ve watched that uses my native frame rate (59.94Hz) hasn’t popped up as a notification, but anything that changes the default frame rate does. Anyone else have the issue without frame rate switching?
I have the same issue, using the latest PLEX server and Android TV beta version (and many previous versions). It’s extremely annoying. These notifications appear even if i disbale them for PLEX. And they return when manually closed, long after the file finished playing. Does not happen for any other app here, only with PLEX.

I don’t use frame rate switching, but have the notification issue, so it probably is not connected to that.
I’m still having this issue also. I don’t see the option to uncheck all notifications though in the menu settings, where’s that at? I’ve tried closing it both ways I see: the show Stop button, and the notification icon by the gear and clock bar. Same thing both times, it comes back after closing an app. So annoying, you’d hope they’d fix it sooner then later but I don’t have much hope given this thread started in Nov 2019.
I have same problem since few days as well, using always latest server version and using nividia shield app as player.
Very annoying bug.
My only way to solve is rebooting Nvidia shield device.
Having this issue for the last few months, still waiting on a fix from Plex. For those on Shield, even though you exit Plex it is still running in the background. Double tap the circle button and fully close the app and the notification will go away. It will save you from rebooting. This started with the new player. At first I disabled the new player and it was fine again but once it became the default player it started acting up again.

Are you talking about the white notification number next to the gear and time? I’ve tried clicking that to close it which it does, but if I come back from another app it’s right back there after I close that one. I must be missing something haha.
This has been happening to me for months. I finally decided to report it as a bug in the Android TV beta forum in the hope that it gets more visibility by Plex devs.
Still happening. 2019 shield pro after watching a movie and end credits I either back out of the movie or fast forward to the end and let the movie end on its own and the notification comes up.
Plex notifications are turned off in settings.
I basically go into app settings and force close plex to get it to go away. Sucks I have to do that after every movie.

Same issue on 2017 Shield. Quite frustrating.
What is sad is that this issue started last year and plex doesn’t seem to care. 
They keep on adding new features but don’t fix existing bugs.

Same issue on the Nvidea Shield (2017) from PMS on my Synology and my Windows 10 machine.
I cannot let this thread die.
Same problem but only if I don’t stop the playback before the end. If playback reach the end and I leave plex then I have the notification
Still seeing this bug. Fix it already. Seems like an easy bug to fix. If no notifications is on then dont show any notifications. Simple as that.
