After upgrade to the new plex movie agent and completing a full refresh I see all this junk under subtitles for EVERY movie in my library which I have checked.
so I know what is happening and will post here in case anyone else runs into this. I have all my movies in a couple of flat folders – see below as an example…
-rw-r–r-- 1 501 mcurran 116822 May 26 16:34 ‘Weathering with You (2019).eng.srt’
-rw-r–r-- 1 501 mcurran 1873705897 May 26 16:44 ‘Weathering with You (2019).mp4’
-rw-r–r-- 1 501 mcurran 1456 Mar 18 2019 ‘Whisper of the Heart (1995).eng.srt’
-rw-r–r-- 1 501 mcurran 2275904597 Dec 17 2019 ‘Whisper of the Heart (1995).mp4’
-rw-r–r-- 1 501 mcurran 5004 Jul 2 16:54 ‘Your Name (2016).eng.srt’
-rw-r–r-- 1 501 mcurran 2177916931 Jul 2 16:55 ‘Your Name (2016).mp4’
as there is then multiple .eng.srt in the library root folder (files named the same as the movie I might add) the new scanner and plex beta version 1.20 does not handle this situation well.
It SHOULD filter and only display the subtitle based on name but instead is showing all the bloody subtitles in the list.
I’ll have to move each movie now within folders with the movie name which I never wanted to do.
Good job plex, you make a new feature and force me to redesign my entire library setup which has worked for years…
It should indeed work like you you’re expecting it to. It should match it by filename so I’m not sure what’s gone wrong but will investigate and update you.
I’ve already moved part of library (Animated Movies) over to using folders and can confirm it fixed the problem. I did need to re-scan and also refresh meta data but after doing both it resolved the issue.
Thanks – i’ll be holding off for a while before using this agent – just too much I don’t like about it for now but will keep an eye on it as the development continues.
@wintered to work around you can stop using the new agent – change your library to use whatever agent you where using before and do a force refresh of the metadata. That will resolve the problem.
In summary 1) the agent needs to configurable for folks (like me) who want to get ALL metadata from a single source and 2) there should be NO limit on the cast, the current 10 limit is beyond stupid. If there is a 100 cast members in a movie then plex should pull all 100.
The new agent will always collate data from multiple sources and we try to select the highest quality sources for everything. This probably isn’t going to change but if you have some specific metadata that you feel isn’t right or of poor quality then reporting it to us is the best way forward so we can improve things.
This is currently being worked on - should have more on this soon.
… but why not make it configurable like the existing plex agent? Removing functionality that was there for years is just wrong. If I want only TMDB then I select that in some settings.
Anyhow, if that won’t happen then I just hope the existing The Movie Database agent never gets removed from plex as I’ll just move to that. The new plex agent will never be what I want.
@drzoidberg33 I took another look at the new agent today to see what the state of play is with it. While the problem I reported above with the multiple .srt files is fixed there is still a problem with .srt files not being detected correctly.
I have some movies with subtitles found and many that don’t. All are picked up correctly with both the legacy and TMDB agents. Only the new agent is having a problem.
Are you aware of problems with srt files not being detected ?
One example would be …
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017).mp4
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017).eng.srt
BTW… interestingly moving them inside their own folder does not fix the problem.
