Can 2 HDHR Primes be used to utilize 6 tuners, while staying stable?

I can’t find a definite answer on this. I have one HDHR Prime set up working great for non DRM channels here locally over Xfinity. Can I add a 2nd so that I have 6 total tuners to utilize with the system still functioning with stability? Thanks.

Yes, I have 2 HDHR Prime units setup in Plex and it works fine, I actually have a 3rd that I haven’t enabled yet but its a hot spare i guess… Works great will consume all primary (first in list) and roll to second unit as it needs, If you have multiple PLEX servers I would suggest flipping them on secondary unit to its primary is secondary of main unit, to help prevent conflicts there is no logic where to Plex servers know of other ones use so by flipping them 1,2 vs 2,1 it helps prevent errors and lags in finding a Tuner available but works great all 6 tuners spin up and use as needed in both cases.

@mabreese

It actually depends on what version you are on . . . there are some of us with 3 HDHR Primes that are unable to record more then 3 shows at once. This is on the latest version and has been around since I think around 1.6, I’m not sure what version I started on but the most I was ever able to do at once was only 4.

@skraemertx

What version are you running that you are able to record 6 shows at once?

Thanks!

The results of multiple recordings vary with the versions and different users. I was not able to record more than 2 recordings with 1.7.0 through 1.7.5, backed off to 1.6.1 with each release which was working fine. Most that have had the issue of only using one tuner device have also reverted to 1.6.1. When 1.7.6 came out I tried it and was able to record with more than one tuner device while others still were having the issue. Same with 1.8.0 which worked for me as well. Installed 1.8.1 and it seemed to work fine the first day I tested then last week before I went on vacation I was unable to record more than 2 shows. I have been working with a Plex Ninja the last several days. He believes he has isolated the issue with my configuration and forwarded to Plex Engineers. Hopefully a solution will be found with the information the Ninja discovered.

Thank you for this info.

@johnm_ColaSC

That would be awesome news!!

@EABenton ,
I am using 1.6.1 and even previous versions worked fine, i have been having issues with 1.7+ like others with hung recordings, what I have found is it depends on your network and cables used on networki have a gigabit backbone with cat 7 Ethernet cables which supports large bandwidth, also my internet connection is 150/150 so its a pretty large pipe even with users watching movies and such i can run 6 recordings no problem.

forgot to mention all my equipment is wired , only wireless for watching on phone/tablets.

@skraemertx

I think 1.61 is where I might have started using the DVR - I was at one point able to record 4 shows but never 6.

I am also wired on my main plex server and I’m the only one that watches TV so I’m not overloading my network I know that’s not related to the issue.

Thanks for the info! Maybe I will back my secondary server down to 1.61 and see what happens . . .
