Can I add a single movie from my phone to my server remotely?

You probably can if you can access the underlying filesystem from your phone while off your network… the Plex Media Server itself doesn’t offer that kind of access to the folders/drives/shares connected to your library.

So I would need something like TeamViewer installed on both devices with access to the media library folders I’m thinking?

That or drop box, google drive or some other file sync process

Yet you can delete files remotely - I just did on my phone over 4G remotely.

So PMS has folder/file access.

There is an upload option in remote user section but I’ve never used it.

Edit- seems some issues with login at the moment.

There’s certainly better options than doing a team viewer session – depending on where your files are stored you could e.g. use the native “app” for your NAS (Syno have their “DS File” app).

Obviously… how else could it access / catalogue your files?
That doesn’t mean it’ll act as a file server with features to upload/download/modify the actual files. Deleting files is a weird exception of that… I suppose there’s been too many users pushing for such an option to avoid interacting with their file system – still Plex have repeatedly stated they’re not planning to change the files (or add new ones).

Indeed but it stops me doing screen shots of the remote upload option in the user section

Edit - this. Camera upload but upload nonetheless. So, PMS allows remote delete and upload.

That’s quite unrelated.

  1. Photo upload had been discontinued in the 1st half of 2021
  2. Downloads refers to loading a video (or music) to a Plex app (replacing the old mobile sync feature)

Rather slack that it has been left there as an option.

So I installed TeamViewer on both my mobile phone and my windows computer / plex server. I remotely transferred a movie on the phone to the computer, directly to the library file path specified.
And it worked like a charm!
The new movie shows up in plex as a recently added movie.
Too bad Plex itself doesn’t offer any option to upload a file to your library remotely, but at least this is a working option…
