can i plug harddrives into the pi for rasplxex to pickup my media?

instead of having my media on a server i want to be able to plug in my harddrives to the pi with rasplex, kind of like xbmc way im moving to rasplex hoping it will pickup shared librarys, i cant seem to find the option in plexbmc

NO. Rasplex is the client, not the server. Not sure where plexbmc fits into this.

RasPlex does indeed connect to shared libraries, exactly like "Plex Home Theater" on a PC.
But it does not have any support for accessing local media (also just like "Plex Home Theater" on a PC).
