Can I safely reinstall Plex from my NAS after an incomplete uninstall?

I have a SynologyNAS DS418Play. I installed and setup Plex in September and then later uninstalled just the media server package. I didn’t remove the other Plex folders.

Is it safe for me to reinstall the Plex package and re-setup Plex or do I need to do a full cleanup of the Plex folders first? Would Plex just work in this scenario or would it be confused that the folders already exist?

What would you like to do?

If you’d only like to change software version - Only uninstall the package and install the desired version.

If you want to completely start over (cold restart), then:

  1. Uninstall the package
  2. Delete user Plex
  3. Delete the Plex share
  4. Restart DSM
  5. Install the package

I’m having a streaming issue so I wanted to do a reinstall. I took the opportunity to install the latest version and it seems to work. Also, I feel foolish now that I found the same answer in the FAQ but thank you for posting it here too!
