I run a Synology DS412+
Somehow I got it wrong trying to put Plex working with french titles and art covers
So I uninstalled Plex and installed it again but when trying to launch it, it doesn’t starts anymore
I uninstalled it again and noticed that in DSM4.0 the shared folder “Plex” hidden in “Volume 1/Plex” is still there. I cannot delete it through DSM.
I noticed as well that the Plex User was still present, but there I can delete it. I did that but cannot still delete the “Plex” folder
When I try to access through SSH the folder “Plex” isn’t there anymore in “Volume 1”
So my question is “How to make a really complete uninstall of Plex Media Server so that I can begin from scratch again ?”
There are bugs in the current version of the synology package. After you have uninstalled it from the package center you need to reboot then remove the volume to complete the uninstall. This will be fixed in the net version.
OK thank you,
I m still puzzled by the complexity of french language titles and art cover support in Plex
Do you intend to have in next version a simpler way to handle it.
Hi
How can I completely delete and uninstall PMS from my Synology 710+ ?
When I use the uninstaller, the Plex shared folder still appear and I cannot delete it!
I also delete some movies but there are still appearing in the UI.
Thank you
Like this: remove Plex from the application center. Reboot the synology machine. Then remove the shared folder.
This was a bug in 0.9.6.1 and .2 and is fixed in 0.9.6.3
Thank you.
I tried what you suggest and didn't work after reboot.
I've notice that the version from package center was version 0.9.5.3. I tried to update with 0.9.6.3. It installed well but it gave me an error concerning that shared folder.
I tried to uninstall it again but Plex shared folder doesn't uninstall. All my shared folder are at Volume 1 and Plex appears to be on Volume 1/Plex. Is it possible to delete from terminal? If yes what should be the command?
Same thing here, uninstalled, rebooted but the share on volume1/plex is still there and cannot by deleted via normal method!
Has anyone discovered a solution to this yet. I have installed 0.9.6.3 on my 412+ and I cannot remove it. I removed the package and rebooted but the share is still locked and I cannot delete it. I also get a message that "the share [plex] was restored every time the NAS is rebooted. I suspect that a startup script is inserted when plex is installed and is not removed when the package is removed.
I'm stumped as to how to remove this. Can anyone help?
You can remove the Plex share from the syno by using SSH and logging in with the root account
Look here for info on SSH
http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.php/Enabling_the_Command_Line_Interface
Once your logged on do this
Type
cd / (enter)
cd volume1 (enter)
rm -r Plex (enter)
This can take a long time if you had a large library.
Thanks wechap! That seems to have done the trick.
Sorry for posting in this old thread but I did what wechap said but after looking around a little more I found there’s still a Plex and Plex@SynoResource folder in /volume1/@eaDir/.
Must these be removed too?
Thanks!
the only thing I see in my @eaDir is a SYNO, (synology, my nas). That is a key for Plex and Synology to keep a certificiate/Key between them for package updates.
Since its just a cert, i dont think you need to remove it. If you do, try removing it through the interface in package center
I have relocated this thread (5 years old) to the Synology forum.

What are you trying to do?
If you’re trying to perform a complete removal of PMS from Synology:
- Package Center - Uninstall the Plex app
- Control Panel - Shared Folders - Delete the
Plex
share - Control Panel - Users - Delete user
plex
- Reboot the NAS
You are now free to install again
Hi
I followed those steps and when I reinstalled it enter directly to my account and doesnt show me the server settings, do you know a solution to this?
- Web browser - Sign out of Plex (upper right)
- Open incognito window to synology: http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web?secure=0
Thanks, i have done that and only appears this window, is searching for servers… I installed the lastest PMS version for Syno
The same problem as I have. I’ve cleaned up and reinstalled the plex server again. Always the same issue. Any ideas how to fix this?
In your plex/web browser (upper right), it’s important to Sign Out when it gets in this state. It’s looking for something it knows (which isn’t where it expects). signing out takes away any preconceptions of what to expect.
Well, I was signed out. Accessing to the plex server offers me to login anyways. Without logging in I obviously can not get access to any plex settings or setup. That is not a solution.
It feels like somewhere inside of the NAS were stored some settings that tells it to skip the setup process. Sadly, I can’t find that stuffs.
If that’s the case,
See FAQ 1
Now, get control of the server.
- Stop it
- Navigate into Plex → Library → down until you see “Preferences.xml”
- Rename it to something (add .old)
- Start Plex
- Now open the IP again.
6 It will appear as if a fresh setup - Do Not create new sections. skip this. your sections still exist.
- set all other preferences as you wish.
- Arrive at the dashboard
