Server Version#:PlexMediaServer-1.26.0.5715-8cf78dab3-x86_64_DSM6
Player Version#:
I am currently running DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 5 and the current Plex DSM6 server, as of today. I have avoided upgrading DSM to version 7 because of all the problems I read about on this forum. Now that 7.1 is out and released, is it safe to upgrade DSM to 7.1? If so, do I just install the Plex server app that comes with 7.1, or will I need to change some other settings?
Syno themselves seem to prefer if you 1st update to 7.0.1.42218.
Their download page lets you specifically pick the correct packages for your model and from what version you’re upgrading.
All that being said… not sure if it’s already safe to update to 7.1. According to their homepage, 7.1 is the latest model and seems to only recently have left beta. No word of DSM 7.2 (maybe I’m looking in the wrong places though).
To whatever version you update, make sure to follow chuckPa’s upgrade guide to the letter to avoid the common caveats.
Thank you Tom for this info. Basically I see no compelling reason to go through the pain of “upgrading” DSM. My Plex server is only accessible behind the firewall - no outside access allowed - so the security upgrades are not that important. Unless I can find a real good reason for the upgrade, I think I’ll just settle on the status quo.
