Plex Update Path for Synology DSM 7.0.1 to 7.1.1 Update 6

Server Version#:1.41.0.8994-70008994
Player Version#: 4.136.1 (Web Player)

Question 1: Update Approach Confirmation
Question 2: Safe to update?

Question 1:
Following difficult but succesful migration from DSM 6 ( @ChuckPa thanks for your help last weekend Chuck!) I wish to update for latest fixes & improvements to DSM without breaking Plex.

Proposed update path from DSM 7.0.1-42218 to 7.1.1-42962 Update 6
(Note: DSM7.2.x is not currently shown as an update for my NAS - DS1518+ )

i) Stop Plex: Synology Plex : 1.41.0.8994-70008994
ii) Uninstall Plex (keep files)
iii) Manual update DSM to 7.1.1-42962 (with Update 1)
iv) Manual update DSM to 7.1.1-42962 Update 6
v) Restart DSM
vi) Manual install Plex 1.41.0.8994-70008994

Question 2:
I understand whilst DSM 7.x makes numerous media changes (such as codecs and removal of hardware transcoding for Videostation) these do NOT impact Plex as Plex manages its own codecs and transcoding - e.g. Transcoding from NAS Plex server to TV will still function with no impact

Thanks for any advice or additional checks/changes I should manually implement to assure integrity of Plex system.

@cristo-m

Now that you’re on DSM 7, life is easy again.

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Upgrade DSM
  3. Start Plex

:sunglasses:

You’ll find, Synology has EOL’d Video Station. They tried to mimic Plex but didn’t have the staff to do so (in addition to all the codec licensing costs)

If you have Video Station, Photo Station, or Audio Station installed, you can safely remove them without impacting PMS.

:sunglasses:
Thanks Chuck,
Nice n easy huh. I’ll hold you that!

I’ll buy you two pints if it’s not.
