Can I use a SKY satellite dish with Plex DVR

I’ve been with Sky for years and am finally thinking of ditching it. I already use Plex Server so the idea of the DVR sounds good. I’m new to this and I’ve tried Google searching this but couldn’t find a suitable answer.

I live in a rented house that has a Sky satellite dish but no external aerial, its also a poor reception area so a internal aerial doesn’t work so well. Can I use the existing SKY satellite dish with Plex DVR to get Freeview and/or FreeSat? I’m ditching SKY so I’m not interested in getting their channels.

If I can what hardware would I need to build the DVR server? I currently have a TP-Link 2600 ADSL Router with a USB connection. I have an Xbox360 plugged into the TV so I’m assuming I can use that to view the DVR via the app, I also have a iPad2 and a Surface Pro (2017). I have a PC with the Plex server software on it but the wife would definitely say no to having that in the living room but I have 2x 1TB HDDs I can remove from it.

Satellite tuners are not officially supported, yet.

There are some users who had success with certain brands and types, but also quite a few for whom it didn’t work. So I can’t recommend it, yet.

Sky has some pretty good encryption on that broadcast, you will have issues without the decoder.
