Can my home users use Plexamp?

2 of my home Users tried to sign in and kept getting the no plex pass message. Just wondering if they can

Hi @Hyndraslic, if you sign in with your Plex Pass account, using the account switcher under the Settings screen (Settings > Account > Switch User), you can then log in for your Home users.

I believe there’s a request raised internally about making this simpler for Home users, though I have no timeline on availability sorry. For now though, the above solution should hopefully work for you!

Wow that sucks, Some of them aren’t in my home so i would have to temporarily give them my password to log in. Thanks! hopefully they add this

The point of Plex Home is that people are
 in your home

I just tried logging in for one of my home users and it keeps defaulting back to my profile.

If they’re a full account, they should be able to sign in for themselves; if they’re a managed user, sign in as yourself and switch over to their account. It should work :grimacing:

Yes, they’re managed users. I’m using an IOS device, version 13.5 and the behavior is the same with Android OS

Steps I followed:

  • Pressed Settings, Account, and then Switch User
  • Received a list of Managed Users including myself. I then pressed a managed user
  • Sent to the Plexamp sign In page
  • Pressed sign in
  • Prompted that “Plexamp” wants to use “plex.tv” to Sign in
  • Pressed continue
  • Redirected to a webpage appplex.tv saying that plexamp would like to sign in to my plex account
  • Pressed sign in
  • Back in the plexamp app

So I think I’m in the managed user view but I see my play history. So I pressed settings again, I see my account image, and if I press switch user, I’m still listed. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

The weird part is " * Sent to the Plexamp sign In page".

When I select a managed user, it asks me for PIN, and then goes back to Plexamp home page with the new user, no sign in page.

Can you set a PIN and see if that’s the issue?

Nope, that didn’t fix it. It just added an extra step to enter the pin. I tried it with Plex Server version 1.19.3.2831 and 1.19.3.2843. On the client side, I’m on iPhone SE, IOS 13.5, Plexamp version 3.0.3. I also tried it on a Samsung S8+ with the same behavior.

Weird
can anyone else reproduce the issue?

Yes, me. I can’t switch to another user. Always asks me to login again and after the login I’m in the admin account again.

I am also confrontated with this problem. It is exactly like 2delarosa described: it is impossible to change the accout to a managed user. It always redirects to plex login and when I login with the plex master user, I am logged in as the master user with my plex account and not the managed account I chose. I tried this with the plexamp windows app and also under android. Plex server is version 1.19.3.2831.

Is it possible that you did not tap on ‘Switch User’, but instead landed on ‘Sign Out’ which is right below?

No, that was not the case, but I found the problem: the managed users had nor rights assigned to the music library because I added the music library later than the users. After changing that, it works like intended.

Thanks BurnInHell. I made the same mistake.
But still @Plex-Team: Plexamp really just sign you out when you change to a managed user, who doesn’t have rights to that music library. A behaviour that seems odd.

Thanks to you all.

With respect to @Hyndraslic point - I think that sometimes Plex Home users can go off to university or other scenarios that puts them at long distance

But also, I would rather not sign family in with the Plex Admin account just to get them access to something I would have thought inviting their full account to my Plex Home would give them. I don’t want the possibility of teenagers happening across adult content I have secured away in libraries only available to the Admin, regardless that a PIN is set.
