Plex Pass and Plexamp

Hello guys, I have a question with plexamp app. I am the owner of a plex media server and I share it with my friends. To use this new app, all my friends need plex pass or only me?

Every user who wants to use Plexamp needs to have a Plex Pass.

There is an exception for members of your own Plex Home:
If you sign-in Plexamp into your own account first, and then use ‘Switch User’ to switch to one of your Home members, they can use the app as well.
But that can only work if the Home admin has a Plex Pass of his own, of course.

But you still have only one plexamp “user” with one play history etc. etc. ?
And I will need to login with the switched user next time?

Play history is ‘per user’ as everywhere in Plex.

And once plexamp is signed in, it doesn’t need to be signed in again. So there is usually no need to repeat this procedure.

If you do this I would advise having PIN on for your account, because … kids.

That applies to all Plex Home use.

This seems like such a hack. If they are home users why do I have to log them in then switch them over to their own account?

Are you guys going to roll out an update that allows home users to log into their own account?

‘Managed Users’ don’t have their own account. The Server admin/Home owner always uses his own credentials to log them in.

With a Plex Pass you can also invite regular plex.tv accounts into your home. However, the check for the Plex Pass is currently done on the account which is used to sign in the app.
This might change with an update.

It’s the same thing with any other streaming service. If you have managed users on your Netflix account, you still have to log in with your main account, then switch to a managed user.

I’m discussing home users, not managed users. Home users have their own Plex.tv account and their own username and password. As said above these users can still use Plexamp but have to be logged in by the home admin which is an extra step when they already have their own personal account.

This should be no longer necessary now.
