Can no longer see qnap on plex

There’s good news and bad news.

Which do you want first?

The bad news – Yes, it’s gone.
The good news – Now’s a perfect time to change / fix anything you didn’t like about your media structure or setup.

You’ll need to go through the setup wizard, declare library sections, and let it all rebuild.

I don’t mind doing that the problem is I can’t get it to start asking me to set it up again. This is what happens when I click on the plex app on the qnap. I click on + your media and it just goes to a screen saying add your media to plex and a button to press’ get plex media server’ that just takes me to the plex download page. I already have this on the qnap

Could it be anything to do with the qnap previously being claimed?

The image you posted did not complete UPLOADING… before you posted.

Try again please ?

Sorry it was just a screen shot of what I’d written above

Downloading shows and streaming them through plex is the only thing I use my Nas for. Do you think I will need to factory reset abd start again?. I can’t believe changing a password can cause this much hassle. I really appreciate your help.

WHOA!!! do not factory reset the NAS.

The best steps here are to

  1. keep all your media as is. Resetting the NAS makes a mess and wastes time/media
  2. Uninstall PMS (the package) from the QNAP
  3. We can go to plex.tv (through http://app.plex.tv) -> Authorized Devices and wipe out everything that exists. (making it all fresh again).
  4. When we’re done there, We sign out of the Plex/Web (upper right)
  5. Now we’re ready to begin again.

Starting PMS over on the QNAP

  1. Close browser
  2. Open browser
  3. Install Plex app on QNAP in App Center (do not “OPEN”)
  4. Open incognito window
  5. Using incognito window, open http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web
  6. Setup fresh

While it’s doing that.

  1. Go to each TV / other device.
  2. TV’s are probably best uninstalled and reinstalled. This is the quickest and easiest way to ‘Link’ it again. You get to pick the server again without fuss. You can select the library sections (customize)

It’s fixed. I’m a f***ing idiot. I kept using my external ip and not my internal ip on the web login after the install. Thank you so much for all your help and I’m so sorry for wasting your time. You’re a good person, it sucked without plex.

It happens. I’m glad you’re working again!

Ignore my nuclear option instructions please

Enjoy!

I’m going to push my luck and ask one last question. Is there a way to reorder my libraries on the web app. I only have 2 but I want TV 1st and Movies 2nd. It’s alphabetical currently

in the Plex/web app?

No, we can’t reorder them in “Web” mode.
We can’t because this is where we admin the server so things need to be in some sense of order.

Anywhere else, I think you can. I know PMP will let you do it in “TV” mode.
I heard, but don’t know, Windows app has desktop and tv modes. I think you can do similar there

Thanks. One last one and I’ll leave you in peace I promise. When I add a show I would like it to appears on plex straight away. For that should I select scan my library automatically, it’s not selected currently.

You don’t need to manually scan it.

Settings - Server - Library - Show Advanced

Check the boxes:

  1. “Scan my Library Automatically”

  2. "Run a partial scan when changes are detected (works with “1.” above)

Your choice of :

  1. “Include Music”

  2. Empty Trash (optional but recommended)

With these settings, PMS will pick up the change in 1 minute, assuming you do’t have more than the Linux default of 8192 folders to scan .

If you do, we can easily increase the table which holds the folders to monitor (how it’s done)

Thanks again for all your help.
