Server Version#: 1.18.2.2058
Player Version#: 4.16.4 (plex web)
Hi there!
A while ago I did a test install of plex on centOS and had good luck with it, electing to move forward with using plex as my media software of choice. During the install on centOS I did everything by hand on the command line.
However, today is the day that I recieved and began the installation process of plex on a dedicated server box that is currently running freeNAS. Surprisingly, I’ve run into a few issues which I never encountered whilst going through the installation process on centOS.
The first issue was a weird permissions issue in which the plex jail instance could not access the share that was set up for it; however that has now been resolved by giving the jail instance the correct permissions to read the share.
The second and more pressing issue is an issue that makes plex completely unuseable. Plex can read all the media files; and can also write to the directory that the jail instance is located in, however, at any time I attempt to play any kind of media; the player shows the orange spinning circle, and never times out. As I write this, the circle has been spinning for 20 minutes. I am completely lost on this to be honest, and no amount of googling has gotten me any further than I currently am.
I hope you guys can shed some light on this issue.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT:
Ive been having a look; and ive also found that none of the thumbnails are appearing in the ewebapp either. Everything seems to report that everything is ok, but apparently nothing is ok
Gonna do a quick bump to this and see if it gets some action;
I reinstalled FreeNAS and the plex plugin on the server unit; The same issue persists regarding not being able to play media files. I’ve discovered that some media files work, and some media files do not.
The Logs are attached. Plex Media Server.1.log (209.5 KB)
Within that log should be information about two media files. One that works and one that does not.
Screenshots
This is the Get info screen for the file that does not work.
I have given the plex user express permission to read and write in three folders of the jail: “Plex, Plex Media Server, and MyMedia”
I have also uploaded an mp4 file that works without any issues either, However. There’s also another mp4 file that does not play either. This file is not included in the logs above.
Alright!
I feel like I’m slowly getting somewhere, Im going to keep double posting here with updates when I figure something out.
Ive discovered that for some reason, plex is refusing to transcode and is for some reason ignoring my direct stream settings. I have it so that it SHOULD direct stream, and im sure that my plex webviewer can handle all the content, but for some reason it’s saying that direct stream is disabled, it then follows with a timeout line. Hopefully I sort this out sooner rather than later.
Sorry for the late reply, lets see if we can sort this out
What’s the error you get when you try to playback? A full zip with the logs might be more helpful, however I do see 401s and 404s in you’re logs, which could be any number of things.
Lets try to clear out a few things first:
1- Is VENT enabled in the plugin/jail (this can be related to the 401s, but not necessarily)
2- Does plex (user) have access to all the media (I’m assuming so since it would give other issues too).
3- Do you see any error in the player?
