Can only add basic music library

Through several clean installs of both Ubutu and Plex, I have never been able to add a premium music library. With the recent changes to the latest server, I thought I would try again and still no luck.
I am running Ubutu 18.04, fully updated, and Plex 1.18.0.1846, lifetime Plex Pass…
I did the plex dance, and so on. Checked and tried numerous forum solutions, all to no avail.
Went to plex.tv, launched web ui and tried from there. No luck. Local server web ui, no luck.
It is not a deal breaker, but extremely frustrating none the less.
Any other tips would be appreciated, otherwise I will throw in the towel on Plex Music.

“Premium” music doesn’t exist as it was known anymore.

Engineering merged Basic and Premium together and augmented both to become the new music library type.

Back away from 4.4.1.1098. I was working with QNAP on Friday.

It has some major flaws.

Have you noticed your RAID I/O speeds ? qcli_storage perf tests?

in the screen shot (thanks for that), confirms it’s not entirely Plex but Plex is the receiving end of the fallout causing downstream failures.

Yes, I understand that, which is why I tried yet again.
It creates a basic library every time, no options for the premium scanners or agents, or any other “premium” feature is available. No option to “upgrade” a current library etc. Basically there are no options related to premium music content whatsoever, either prior to the latest update or previous to the update. Last night, I once again deleted the library, cleaned the bundles, optimized the database. Signed out of Plex. Restarted the server, signed back in, created a …yet another basic music library with virtually no premium options. I, again, signed out, restarted, signed in, went ‘Music…manage library’, and nada.

When you create fresh, you already are creating the upgraded Library type.

You are getting everything all at once without need to select or do anything.

I had to bite the bullet and recreate mine. Fortunately my music is well curated (MusicBrainz) and recreation time was about an hour.

Ok. Thanks Chuck, that clarifies it.
I recreated the library just now, and used my musicbrainz tags. So all is as it should be I suppose.
With or without music, I still get my moneys worth from Plex

I think you’ll be pleased.

I never could setup a premium music library due to Gracenote even with my tags perfect. It would take forever

Now, I get the same info as I did for those which did come through in a fraction of time without all the fuss.

I, for one, am pleased with how it worked out

It’s taken days for the scan with latest update of PMS on Linux with high CPU usage. Still not done yet. When I cancelled scan it fubars the db and I’ve had to start all over.

How many music files? I can index 57,347 files in a few hours.

Not sure really. The PMS prior to this one was quick. Not sure what this one is doing. Or if it’s stuck on something. First time with the latest stopped it after 2 days. Thought I would try to let it run this time but it’s nerve racking. Plus can’t really do any new encoding.

As a test, I’m redoing my library now. We’ll time it based on the posting times here

I think it’s just hanging. Little to no HD activity.

@theonlycure see also @ New music scanner - high 100% cpu on half number of cpu cores

@theonlycure how many files do you have in each folder of music you are scanning?

Shouldn’t be crazy number because I think most if not all are in folders artist/album/tracks. My collection is broken across 9 or 10 drives. I think I’ll try adding one drive at a time and scan. Glad but disappointed it’s not just me. (I know that’s contradictory.)

Found a drive with a few hundred random tracks in a folder. Took them out and scanning. So far minimal cpu usage. About 2%. And scanner is actually adding music to library.

Froze again, this time it shows what folder it’s stuck on and yes has over 50 songs.

Thanks to @TeknoJunky we were able to understand the cause of the issue. We are working on a fix
