Can someone please explain to me where I can find

Can someone please explain to me where I can find the HTPC App to use? I usually use a Browser to view on my HTPC’s but it seems a bit “buffery” these days and with my hardware whether it be the server or the htpc’s, it shouldn’t be an issue and never has been before. So I figured I’d try the web app again. I used to love the original one but stopped using it when they changed it, anyway. I see now a blog that says we were going to lose HTPC service but now we are not. What exactly is the deal with that because if HTPC app is defunct, I just lost a lot of $$$$ building them the last 2 years. I click on a link that says I can DL the App there but when it takes me there, there is no Download for any App but Xbox. Help and some explanations would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. Is there an App for Windows based HTPC’s or not and if yes, link me please. Thanks much. -TD

A Windows Plex player app that looks like the web app but can play much more formats than a web browser https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app

A Windows Plex player app which can look like the web app or optionally like the Plex big screen apps (which is then operable by a regular remote control or keyboard): Plex Media Player
(supports also “HDMI audio passthrough”)

Hi and thanks much, one last question, is Windows 7 not compatible? it is telling me Win10 or higher and I DESPISE 10, & 8 For that matter, with a passion. 10 updates whenever it feels like, it reboots on its own in the middle of the night losing anything not yet saved and in general, 10 is Super Glitchy! This is a nightmare. I figured I could stay with 7 forever for my HTPC’S But it sounds like I’m screwed. Thanks for the help

7 will be history at the end of February 2020, AFAIR.

You can get W10 to behave, if you turn the right knobs & levers. I wouldn’t want to trade it for W7.

Even tho W7 is at it’s end, I still thought its usable, just not updated any longer. Like whatever it is now, it would still be. Do I have that wrong? I have 1 W10 PC and I hate it. If I’m gonna have to use it, is their a link you know of to help make the correct adjustments? Video tutorial even better? Thanks for everything. I felt dumb to initially ask but I’m so glad I did. Looks like I’m going to have to learn Linux or succumb to Windows 10. I wonder how much that will cost me? May be better off to pay for Linux courses. Anyone teach them online? I’ve dabbled with Linux b4 but sometimes I couldn’t figure out how to setup the internet with it so I kinda gave up on it. Thanks much

Correct. There is also the possibility of increased targeted attacks of Windows 7 through any still-vulnerable code / bugs in the OS that may be discovered by malicious folks.

Ok but even if I just wanted to stay with 7 on my HTPC’s, which I would think wouldn’t be a big deal if they hacked because what could they do? Delete an app? the bigger Problem is I didn’t think of having to stay up to date with current OS’s for Plex but it states Windows 10 or higher, or do you think I could try it anyway with decent results? Thanks again

What have you got to lose by trying?

The big issue with unpatched systems is that these can be used as an outpost and a relay to conduct further attacks on other systems.
Systems either within or outside your own home network.

The old “there is nothing valuable on this computer, so it doesn’t need patching” is very short-sighted.
As long as these systems are in any way connected to the internet, they need security updates. If there are no security updates available without paying MS a bonus (which is what will happen after the cutoff date), then you better migrate away.
Miscreants are using any relay they can exploit. Even small, decrepit embedded systems like routers, NAS’s, printers etc are used to mount attacks. So if they find a relatively performant Windows system, attackers will have a field day.

I, for one, recommend you to use the remaining time to install Windows 10 and then activate it with the license key of your Win 7 version (still possible, but who knows whether it will stay that way until after the cutoff date).

I thought that free upgrade only went for the first year after the Win10 release? It still works even now?

FTR, I updated all my systems within that first year which is a half dozen machines. I really have had no issues with Win10.
