Can someone please help me once and for all with the remote access?

So, over the years I have had minor issues with the remote access but I always get them resolved. From using hard wire instead of wireless, to restarting your modem if its not available outside your network. This time though I am stumped. It says it is not available outside my network but it is ONLY for Roku devices! That’s right, if someone is using a Roku, they can still access my library. On any other platform, it says it is signed out. WTH? How can I fix this? This has worked fine since 2015 other than the few minor issues here and there. This has been going on a few weeks now, just out of the blue. Please, any suggestions I will listen. Thanks.

Do you have a port forward setup in your router?

Can you post shots?

I never have because I have never needed to. Would I need to all of the sudden after years of not? Still wouldn’t explain why Roku devices play. Pic1 is showing my remote access page. Pic2 shows that a Roku is playing in my network, and no it isn’t in my home.

Remote access works in 2 ways.

Upnp requires no user config but is unstable.

Port forward which requires user config and is stable.

Upnp probably gave out.

Setup a port forward and see how that goes.

I’ve never done it. Is it pretty easy and quick?

Google the model of your router followed by “port forwarding” and you will find guides.

Should take you 5 minutes max.

Post shots and we can help with settings. Also make sure your server has a “static” IP to start.

OK, I am trying it out. Step 1 creating, a static IP address did not work. Followed step by step, 3 times. So Ii downloaded a program that did it for me. That’s taken care of.

Next, found a page that shows you step by step the EXACT model of my router how to create a port forward. Step by step was incorrect but I found point forward myself.

Now, in the first pic, is the supposed step by step. In the 2nd pic, is my actual port forward in my router. That’s where I am now, they do not match. Please help.

Ok so external host is 0.0.0.0 internal host is the static IP of your Plex box and 32400 is the port for both external and internal unless you changed that in Plex.

Do that, go to canyouseeme.org and make sure it shows success.

After that disable remote access in Plex, restart Plex and enable remote access.

It didn’t work. For the canyouseeme.org, when I go to that site, it lists a different IP address and I can’t change it. I posted screen shots below

it looks like your port forward is correct if your plex server is 192.168.1.150.
your test was wrong: you tested port 80 not 32400 (at least in the picture)

can you varify that your plex server is set to always be 192.168.1.150, through a dhcp reservation or a static address set on the server itself?

finally if this still is not working LOGS please

What that guy said ^^

Its still not working guys. Pic1 says my IP address is static. And pic2 shows I tried the correct port.

Disable windows or any other firewall and test again at canyouseeme. Regardless of the result enable the firewall again straight afterwards and post result.

It is disabeled. It was on a trial basis when I first bought it. It expired and I never renewed it. I t won’t let me turn it on and off without re-subscribing.

Again, this happened just all the sudden after years of playing fine. Nothing has changed on my end.

Are you sure you are referring to Windows firewall? Its free and installed by default.
And despite the “nothing has changed” scenario… If Windows is set to update then believe me, things change often regardless of whether you see those changes or not.

Also it might be worth mentioning, that before, I never had to checkmark the manual port (32400). It always connected remotely automatically.

OK I found Windows firewall. Disabled it and re-started Plex, no change. I turned it back on and re-started Plex, still no change.

So you have port 9091 open with some Apache server listening for some reason and canyouseeme.org should show success for that guy as well if you test it.

http://75.187.128.162:9091/

but port 32400 is not responding for you.

I would suggest you maybe install this MiniWeb and let it spin up on the same machine as your Plex box and try to get port forwarding setup to this.

Once installed you should be able to browse to 192.168.1.150:8080 or 8888 and see the default blue web page (I dont remember the default port it uses) and set that same port up in your router and test that on canyouseeme.org and see what you get.

Once you can get the port forwarding setup right it will work properly.

OK. Where did you get the port 9091? It says its a success with canyouseeme.org but still won’t work in Plex.

I have no idea what the Apache server is.

We are getting ready to leave, I will try your suggestions with the miniweb thing tonight and report when I get back.
