Can stream anything but 480p remotely!! Help!!

I am having some weird issues all of a sudden. I have been a user for awhile now and have not had any issues playing via remote access. I have an upload of 10Mbps on my home connection. I can stream 1080p direct with no problems. But all of a sudden when I am remote with a download of 80Mbps I can not stream any higher than 1.5Mbps with out buffering. Locally I have no problem. This started to happen since last update. Anyone else having this issue or know what could be causing this issue?

Thanks

I’d made sure that your ISP really gives you 10Mbit, try with different test method to establish this. Perhaps, if possible, download something from your Plex on that remote location and see how fast it goes (or download via other means). There are other speed testers out there, try a few and see how it goes.

Also, make sure that you’re remote settings are correct for Plex - it might be that you ended up on Plex Relay connection which is limited to 1Mbit for non-Plex pass users.

Also check that it’s not your server transcoding the video and not having enough cpu power. Most blu-rays (1080p) are encoded using H264 which may direct play so your cpu is not involved. Older DVDs (480p) are encoded using Mpeg which may not direct play so your server has to transcode it.

Here is my speedtest results. So I know I should have no problem. I have had no problem in the past. Nothing has changed on my current setup. It used to work fine before the last update.

This has not resolved at all. I even called my ISP and had them check everything. Something had to happen in the latest update to get these issues. I can’t even stream remotely at 480p resolution. I have more than enough bandwidth and I have all ports forwarded correctly.

You’ll need to provide your server logs showing you accessing it remotely so I can look for errors or other issues.

Hey did you ever figure this out? I’ve having the same problem now
