Can stream from PC to iphone over 4G, but not to TV over ethernet

Server Version#: 4.108.0 / 1.32.7.7621
Player Version#:

Remote access states: “Not available outside your network” but I am able to stream to my phone and always have been.

Previously I was able to stream to the TV, but it won’t connect any more.

The PC and the TV are both in the same house, connected via ethernet BUT not on the same network.

  • the PC is connected to the main router
  • the TV is connected to a sub network (Google mesh wifi, connected via ethernet)

I don’t know what to research, because all of the solutions for Plex not being able to be seen outside the network won’t apply, seeing as I am in fact able to access from my phone.

Thanks for reading

Accessing a Server through Relay

The connection is using Plex Relay. The stream is tunneled through servers at Plex. It is limited to 2 Mbps (1 Mbps w/o a Plex Pass).

What is the IP address of the Plex Media Server?

What is the IP address of the TV?

I see. Thanks for explaining why the phone is working.

I’ll get the IP addresses and come back to you.

It is a 2022 Samsung TV FYI

PC is 192.168.0.144
TV is 192.168.86.55

Thanks for the info.

Two things:

First, on the Plex server, verify that the Ethernet port is configured as Private, not Public.
In Windows 10: Settings → Network & Internet → Properties.
If set to Public, change to Private and reboot the server. Public isolates the system from the rest of the network, preventing local clients from connecting directly to the server.

Second, it appears the Google mesh is performing NAT, which places the devices on a separate network. Contact Google and see if it is possible to place the mesh in bridged mode. This would put all devices on the same network - 192.168.0.x.

Hi. Yes, my ethernet port is private.

Looking at the documentation of the Google Wifi, it says Bridge mode is only possible if using a single wifi device, not if using several devices in mesh.

I could look at enabling Bridge mode on my base router?

Before changing the base router to bridge mode, make sure Google Mesh supports port forwarding (to enable remote access).

Also, you will have to connect the Plex server to the Google Mesh, so you’ll need a spare Ethernet port.

Hi. Google mesh does support port forwarding.

It’s not possible to connect the PC/Plex server to the Google mesh network. It is on a secondary network.
When I said it was in the same house, I meant the same property. The PC is in a converted shed in the garden.

Sorry, any further advice?

If it was possible to connect the Plex server to the Google Mesh then then they’d be on the same network and I wouldn’t need bridge mode then would I?

Hello Mr. Ninja - have you abandoned me?

Some ninja you turned out to be… do you lack the courtesy to tell me you don’t know how to help me? I can see that you’re active, just decided to ignore me twice for some reason. Guess you are interested in problems you can solve, rather than people you can assist. Sorry I couldn’t help you pat yourself on the back this time. And no, I don’t think I’m entitled to your help, but I would love to not be left hanging mid-conversation, and I would like to be replied to when addressing someone directly, especially after they’ve left me hanging for days… Apart from now - don’t feel the need to reply SMH
