Have Google Fiber and cannot access Plex through my phone without wifi

Would there be a reason why I can access Plex through my wifi on my phone but not through my mobile data? Also just in case I do have the plex pass if that does or does not make a difference

Accessing your Plex Media Server from outside your network can be tricky in some environments e.g. depending on…

  • your home network setup if you have multiple subnets / Double NAT / …
  • your router
  • your ISP (e.g. if they assign you a “private IP” instead of one that can be accessed from the outside or simply if they filter your streaming).
  • the type of internet connection you get from your ISP (mostly the upload bandwidth)

That being said… for your server to even start being available outside your home network, you need to enable Plex’ Remote Access:

  1. Open Plex in your browser
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Navigate to [Server Name] > Remote Access
  4. Check Enable Remote Access
