Can the rasplex transcode the subtitles client-side?

i use a Synlogy DS212j as an Plex Server to stream the files to my clients. With the arm cpu the synolgy has not enough cpu power to transcode the subtitles.   I use a Synlogy DS212j as an Plex Server to stream the files to my clients. Thanks

Rasplex does not require any transcoding, I have been using it for months and the PMS simply sends everything "raw" to Rasplex. The PMS on your synology should be able to just send both the video and subtitles to the client using Direct Play.

Cello, can you tell me where I can find this "direct play"? It works for me, but sometimes subtitles are still a problem...

It should be enabled by default.

Sometimes though the subtitles are not sent, this happens also when the PMS is on a Mac like my case. When that happens, usually stopping playback and restarting makes them available. It drives me crazy too so you're not alone.

Anyway you can try checking Preferences--> Network --> Media Server --> Quality from Local server to see if direct play is enabled.

Will subtitles normally always be played without transcoding on a Rasplex (except bandwidth problems)? Do you need to have external subs (.srt) for this? So this means you can use a weaker cpu NAS (like DS212j).

Just to verify, I don't want to have a bad buy. :)

There are a couple options for subtitles, but they are all handled by the plex media server.

If you drop in subtitle files along with your videos, I *believe* that plex will find them on the server.

You can also set up a subtitle scraper on the server, and it will automatically download subs for you in your chosen language(s).

Rasplex relies on the plex media server to supply it with subs.

For the subtitles, indeed it works normally by default. I just needed to configure this in the PMS like Cello already explained.

If you put the .srt file within the same directory as the video, plex normally automatically starts to play it. If that is not the case, you can check it with the "S" button (This disables or enables the subtitles).

Maybe they are just disables.

Normally, this always works for me. Although, I have one exception where this doesn't work. This is when the video files are .m4V files. I have the .m4v file and .srt file in one directory.

When starting the video, I doesn't recognize any subtitle file (I checked this with the menuin rasplex PHT where you can select your subtitles). I also tried with the "S" button afterwards but nothing worked.

Is somebody having the same experience with it?
