Can this work via Ethernet?

I seem to be stuck due to DNS settings, maybe someone can confirm.

Previously, I had PMS 0.9.8.4.125-ffe2a5d running on my Mac mini with WIFI and Ethernet both connected.  All iOS devices in the house worked. Including my aTV 2 & 3 (this was before the SSL update) using PlexConnect.

I now have WIFI disabled and Ethernet running on a static IP of 192.168.2.200.  PlexConnect fires up and appears to be working fine. http://pastebin.com/4NHREDdS

With plexconnect running and WIFI turned off, iOS devices can no longer locate the PMS on our home network.

PlexConnect updated to version on Sept. 25.

aTV is updated to latest version as well.

aTV has DNS set to 192.168.2.200.  The only thing that will come up, however, is the Computers & Settings icons.

Any ideas?

Is your wifi somehow separated from your ethernet in your router configuration?

I have used both wifi and ethernet on my apple tv’s using osx as my plex media server . Did you generate a trailers.pem and place it in the correct folders and your apple tv? If all else fails I have a full tutorial in my signature for osx maybe reinstall everything to be sure everything is up to date.

wahlman.j, yes actually I have followed your tutorials and the SSL cert is installed.  I have a feeling it must be my network setup.  WIFI connects directly to the ISP router (along with iOS devices and aTV), but my ethernet line goes from ISP router > ethernet switch > mac mini.

I'll bypass the switch to see if it resolves my issues.

Follow-up:

I bypassed the ethernet switch and my iOS devices work fine with plexconnect running now.  However, aTV still showing only Computers/Settings after a restart.

Updated log:  http://pastebin.com/JsDdHeGU

aTV 3 with 6.0 installed.

FYI: I do have MAMP (apache) installed on this computer, but it's setup to run off port 8888.

Plexconnect is failing the problem is with your mac mini. Plexconnect or pms, start fresh. I have an apache server as well no issues. Create all new certs using this site just was updated today:

https://langui.sh/2013/08/27/appletv-ssl-plexconnect/

Reinstall using your trailers.pem via webserver to 1 appletv for now and put the new certs in the pms folders as needed. Just had another issue today also and that fixed it.

If you run in terminal just sudo ./plexconnect.py and it shutsdown you can bet its your mini. Also if you type your mac mini ip in safari i.e. 192.168.1.101 using your ip obviously, it should have a white error screen. Until you see this screen and plex connect stays alive dont leave your mini besides installing the cert to your atv again. The error seen below means plexconnect and pms are working:

Confirmed, I do get the error screen as you suggested.  Plexconnect is up and running and continues to get all sorts of requests:

21:31:13 DNSServer: DNS request received!
21:31:13 DNSServer: Source: ('192.168.2.100', 64096)
21:31:13 DNSServer: Domain: time.apple.com
21:31:13 DNSServer: ***forward request
21:31:13 DNSServer: -> DNS response from higher level
21:31:16 DNSServer: DNS request received!
21:31:16 DNSServer: Source: ('192.168.2.100', 64096)
21:31:16 DNSServer: Domain: time.apple.com

But again, when I look at the aTV, I'm only getting Computers/Settings icons :(

Edit:  I also generated a new cert and installed to aTV and installed a fresh copy of plexconnect per your suggestion.

I would get the new master from here and put your new certs in plexconnect again:

yes, that's what I just did -- sorry, I edited my post after the fact.

Why does your source say .100 shouldn’t it be .200, can you temporarly shutdown your apache server to rule it out, doubt its the issue but one less issue ruled out

.100 is the IP of the aTV on my network, .200 is the mac mini with PMS.

Can you post a pic of your error on the atv? What is your complete static ip settings on your atv as well. Can you run any ios stock internet app with success to the web? Maybe your atv isnt on the network even tho the static ip is set.

No error on the aTV -- just no content, like it doesn't have an internet connection.

IP: 192.168.2.100

DNS: 192.168.2.200

just type your static settings, ya your not online I think unless you are hiding apps with parental controls. Also your still on wifi obviously since it says it on your atv. When you hook an ethernet w dhcp it automaticaly sets it to ethernet obviously.

If I set DNS back to automatic on aTV all stock aTV apps work fine

Both should be manual obviously, conf ip n conf dns…i just set my atv to static n it works still…reset your atv after u set static. If that doesnt work show trailers app…then update pms to latest ver.

Comfirmed working here also on your ios ver:

Do you see trailers on your atv when you set it to dhcp? You point your dns to your mini still and plexconnect works? Mirror your atv ip dhcp setting to your static settings. If that doesnt work maybe you have a bad ethernet or your ethernet port is no good. Swap that atv and ethernet out to troubleshoot.

I have all three files in /plexconnect/assets/certificates

What happens when you type 127.0.0.1 in your browser?

when I set DNS back to auto, all atv apps show up immediately and work fine.

When i set DNS to 192.168.2.200 and restart, everything disappears and nothing works.

Does plexconnect work when its set to auto?

no, when set to auto the trailers app shows the actual trailers app.

So plexconnect doesnt work if you open trailers on auto? Sounds like you have multiple issues on your mac and atv…geez…try 127.0.0.1 on your browser on your mini.
