Can you add your own metadata from a text file?

I just recently started using Plex for WWE DVDs I’ve ripped, but Plex isn’t capturing the metadata correctly. I’ve added fanart for each video file, and it’s picking those up just fine.

Is there a way I can do something like create a text file in the folder of a video so Plex will grab that for its metadata? I’m wanting to do this I tested adding metadata to a video, then removing the video from its location and adding it back, and Plex didn’t save it. So, I’m wanting to know I can do this for when I move the files over to a bigger hard drive one day so I don’t get and change the metadata for tons of video if I’m just going to lose it all later.

Do you mean .nfo files? If so, no plex does not natively support those, but I think there is a plugin for it. jellyfin does however.

Alternatively it might be worth some effort to review the correct structure for those files. I know from other posts that those DVDs occasionally come with their very own and “flexible” approach when it comes to grouping their content (which isn’t necessarily reflecting the way the show was aired) – and there tend to be too many releases for “DVD order” to do the job.

just picked the 2 top entries… there’s probably more shows in this context

If you go with that, sonarr is great at renaming things into the standard used by tvdb.
