Please help me - I have a Synology NAS for my plex - after updating to DSM I fear the worst and I’ve lost all 2,000 movies. I originally used the synology interface to update Plex and the server did not connect. So I read several new instructions here to remove and reinstall. I never deleted the “Plex” folder but did remove the “PlexMediaServer” to do the reinstall. However the migration didn’t happen properly or maybe it did and I didn’t know. At any rate the files are missing from File station. All the remains in the Plex folder is a file that says “migration log” content are below.
I know my permissions are messed up but will getting that right bring my files back or reveal them? Because I fear the worst so my other question is if they were deleted is there any method to recover them?

Is there a way to actually pay or get personalized support from PLEX ? Or does anyone know of a reputable vendor who specializes in Plex media servers?
I lost my Plex files on my synology when upgrading to DSM 7. I have no idea if it’s a set up issue or permission fix that could restore my files or if they are lost is there any available or known method to recover? I figured at this point I need an expert to put eyes on my server and let me know if the situation is fixable or as dire as I fear.
Do you still have the Plex shared folder ?
– Complete with Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server ?
If you have this, and all your media, NOTHING is lost.
DSM 6 → 7 requires migration / conversion of the server data
– We had to change both Username and Shared Folder name
– We no longer have admin/root privilege when installing (we can’t do anything for you)
We have the procedure all documented
– Grant permissions for PlexMediaServer (the new username)
– To process and transfer all your metadata from the /Plex shared folder
– And place it in the new /PlexMediaServer shared folder for ‘PlexMediaServer’ user.
if you scan access the synology website and request a tech look intoi this I am sure there may be some help there.
I almost lost 144 TB of files on one of my Asustor nas’ had a catastrophic crash. I was able to set up an desk session to fix it with them going into the deeper levels of the control system. Anyway it took about three session as the recovery of 144 TB of data takes awhile. Yes i also back up to a web vault and a second server, however it was the prefect storm lol.
Anyway Asustor did this for free and i have been out of warranty for years
The contents of the Plex share won’t get “lost” by upgrading to DSM 7
The only thing that can delete them is a user-deletion.
If the Volume (storage array) crashed – You’d not be using it right now.
From what you show me, It looks like your server did migrate to DSM 7.
Can you look in PlexMediaServer / AppData / Plex Media Server.
You should see all the familiar folders.

If this is the case, then all we need to do is get your ownership back and grant permissions for the new Plex username to see your media.
i’m glad you seem optimistic but I’m still not seeing the files migrate or appear. I’ve updated the permissions again. I hit refresh and still not files or sub folders for plex appear.
in File Station if you right click the share the videos are supposed to be in and hit properties whats the file size? That should tell you if you deleted the files or not (and if the folder is big its just a permission problem)
Thanks - yes unfortunately in Filestation does not show any files or the file sizes are very small - no where near the 2 TB of video that was present. However when when I go to Shared Folder - plex doesn’t show the files but my main parent folder shows 2.4 TB however I can’t locate where these might be right now.
Are you logged into DSM with an account? Can you browse the homes directory (user directory)
By what you are showing me and telling me it kinda looks like your Plex share is gone or may have somehow moved to your homes folder/share under a user maybe.
I’ve searched everywhere on the dsm and don’t see any kind of directory or any file names. However in storage it does show what appears to be the files saved somewhere because the 2.5 TB reflects what is missing.
Do you have any familiarity with terminal? If you are logging in with a admin account to DSM you should be able to browse everything in file station regardless of where it is saved.
