DSM 7 files not available

Hello, I made the migration after several tries (there is no more data in the Plex directory), I can open Plex and my video folders are recognized and apparently the metadata were well recovered.
On the other hand, the videos are not available although the link indicated seems to be the right one.
Can you help me?

I may have a backup of the PLEX directory before migration to DSM 7

I hadn’t authorized the media file indeed, thanks!

I have given PlexMediaServer all access rights as specified above but still all my video files are unavailable. Moreover for some reason “remote access” is also unavailable after update. Please help.

And this is a msg I got: ERROR: Unable to migrate existing “/volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server” to DSM 7. System error 0.

@snarfsov

“System error 0” occurs when a step was missed setting permissions for the “Plex” share.

Please look here.

  1. Confirm all your metadata still exists in Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex media Server
  2. Uninstall the DSM 7 package w/ ERASE option
  3. Apply the permissions manually as I show above
  4. Run package installation again.
  5. It should not fuss as much as before and start installing – be patient.

I’ve done the permission step for PlexMediaServer, but how do I start / run the package installation again?

And thank you for this fast response and hopefully just as fast how to run installation again.

Regards,
Frans

That file is an exe and I thought I need a “pat” extension to re-install DSM 7?

OK, then I’m still confused which one to take. I must be blond :frowning: sorry. Running my stuff on DS220+ and my laptop has 64 bit. Do I choose the Intel 64 bit or one of the ARM versions?

So can I keep current log file configuration, or should I change that?

Update done, now wishing I never had upgraded to DSM 7. Plex app on tv shows pictures of the shows and movies I got on the NAS but states “unavailable” and/or “playback error”.
Any suggestions?

Oh and yes, I’ve always manually updated Plex while on DSM 6.

I checked again and PlexMediaServer has full control on Plex folder and Media folders.
What else can I have done wrong?

If I may add to Trumpy?

There are times when, because of how media gets added.

  1. You need to use the Convert to Windows ACL option.
  2. Other times you need to use this:

All working fine now, also remote. Thanks a lot for the much needed help!!!

And of course I forgot one last question. On synology connection in browser I now get “Connection is not secure”. Never had that before. Any final suggestion/advice on that?

I am having the same issues as the original post after the DSM7 upgrade and migration of plex. I can see my files in PSM but when I try to play I get an error message “Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted.” I have done all the permission changes as described, but still no luck after refreshing all metadata. Am I out of luck? and have to start over with ERASE option during the uninstall of PSM and do a reinstall?

I have an few month old back up of my PSM directory, could I use that after the reinstall?

Yes, have done all of that and above and still have the same issue.

Unfortunately, I didn’t read the forum before updating and did accept the package offered by Synology in the package center after the DSM update. After I installed it and it didn’t work I uninstalled and installed the on from plex.tv manually with no change to the files in my collection. Still getting the error of “Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted.”

Strange, but I do not have a folder in File Station called PlexMediaServer. I only have a folder called /Plex/Library/Application Support, but there is nothing in this folder, only my backup.zip that I created months ago.

I do have a system internal user called PlexMediaServer and had already changed it’s permissions to R/W.

Hi Trumpy, appreciate the help. I went back to review where I misstepped. I was unaware that there is a “7.x - Plex 2.0 Forum Preview” version of Plex.

I uninstalled Plex version 1.24.1 DSM7 and reset permissions in your above post. In control panel → shared folder I added the R/W permission for the PlexMediaServer user, saved and closed.

I then checked the permissions on the media folders through file station. Those were already set to R/W, and there was only a view tab, not edit. I applied to this and all sub folders and saved.

Much to my surprise the files actually played in PSM like they should and all metadata appears to be intact, much appreciated on your help.

Lastly back to the “7.x - Plex 2.0 Forum Preview” version of PSM, should I be running this version or stay on the version published from the Plex downloads page? Would you still like the log files?

Ever since I upgraded DSM on my Synology 1817+ (I am running DSM 7.0-41890), Plex Server has not behaved correctly. Now it has completely lost connection to the data on my NAS and I can’t figure out how to get reconnected to it.

My Plex server version is 1.24.0.4930-7000. If I click “Your Media” on the Plex Server (web access), I get “Get Plex Media Server”, which is pretty odd since I got there from Plex Media Server. If I want to reinstall, which architecture is an 1817+ ? System information says the CPU is INTEL Atom C2538.

Losing connection to the data on your NAS is a simple case of permissions.

Reinstallation is not required.

Do you remember this blue popup when you finished installing ?

If you look closely, it’s the instructions (reminder) about how to give permissions to PlexMediaServer (the new username) so it can see your media.

This sound about right?

All of my media is in folders under a shared folder named PlexMedia. The PlexMediaServer internal user has R/W access to that folder. Do I also need to share the subfolders that actually hold the media, or is the top level share sufficient?

@FritzSands

I’ve seen cases where the subfolder permissions are pretty badly broken because of how they were uploaded to the NAS.

Using FileStation,

  1. Right click the shared folder name
  2. Properties
  3. Permissions
  4. If you don’t see PlexMediaServer there, CREATE it
  5. Now assign permission you want
  6. Check the box to “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files”
  7. Click SAVE and let it set permissions into the subfolders.
