DSM 7 + Plex Upgrade/Migration Issue

I recently performed the upgrade from DSM6 to DSM7 on my Synology 920+ (I only did it after Plex started giving me issues last night connecting). That upgrade went mostly fine (some Docker stuff to fix), however the Plex Media Server fails to show any of the library content (as if it’s on an old server) even after following the instructions on setting full control permissions for PlexMediaServer, uninstalling, and then reinstalling. I tried removing the server that appeared as the old one, but that didn’t resolve anything. I have also tried fixing permissions in case that was an issue, but no change.

Where to go from here? Thank you!

I was able to leave the “Plex” share for your use while providing a PlexMediaServer shared folder which is exclusively for PMS use (but can be accessed for Backup purposes)

Did you forget to give System Internal User “PlexMediaServer” permission to read the media ? (as posted in the blue popup when installation completed)

I did not click “Repair” at any point, so we should be good there.

I mean none of the libraries were re-imported to Plex (all I see are my other servers) and going to server settings only suggests to create libraries. I know the files are all still there (all 250K of them) in the Plex and PlexMediaServer folders.

I have given PlexMediaServer Full Control on basically everything in the server, including the Data folder/sub-folders where all my media is located.

When Plex finishes installing and “migrating” from the Plex share to “PlexMediaServer”

1. All your media will be left n the “Plex” share
2. I only move what’s under Library (PMS internals) to the new shared folder structure.

Before we go any further, did you store any media in “Library” ?

No, I never had any media in Library.

Here is a screenshot of me adding “PlexMediaServer” to one of my media shares and enforcing it to get everything in that share.

1. Right click the Share
2. Properties
3. Permissions
4. If PlexMediaServer isn’t listed – CREATE and add as I show here
5. If PlexMediaServer is listed – Give it permissions and Apply to all subfolders & files

I did that, but rechecked to make sure and they’re all permissioned for PlexMediaServer - Full Control.

I don’t remember specifically why I had two ethernets setup (good catch), I think that config was lost in the DSM6 → 7 upgrade.

Anyways, I have followed all those steps. Libraries are still not present within Plex. Attached new logs after hitting Scan Library Files.

I was given a migration.log file in the original Plex share as expected. However, my Plex libraries are still not appearing.

I did the restore with my database files from 2 days ago, no libraries present still.

I’m gonna try to wipe the whole new one and start from scratch on migration.

Same result. It also looks to have browsed into my Data share and wiped out a lot of the backup database files while it migrated.

At this point, I’m just gonna have to go through and rebuild my database. Which normally isn’t a big deal, but Plex handles anime extremely poorly and when you have 14K+ episodes of it, it’s a big undertaking to fix.
