Cannot access external hard drive

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Hi,
I have changed from desktop to laptop and my movies are on an external hard drive, I installed the media server on my laptop and when I want to add the series and movies, I don’t see the external hard drive in the list.
From windows I can access the hard drive and I see all files on it, so there’s no issue with this drive.
What could be the reason ?
thanks in advance for your help

Try copy/pasting the drive letter and folder name from the Windows file explorer to the ‘Add folder’ dialog.

i have tried that but that doesn’t help
And when i put the hard drive on my desktop, there plex recognises it
so i really don’t know what could be the problem…

After a windows update and restarting it suddenly works

My guess: Plex only enumerates the available drives at the time when it is started.
Since you connected the external drive after Plex had already been started, you had to restart the plex server, in order for Plex to “see” the new drive.

Btw. I recommend you to designate a “fixed” drive letter to this drive. To prevent Windows from assigning it a different drive letter (which can happen if you connect a second drive) to the computer. Plex would then be unable to find the media it has already ingested, making them ‘unavailable’.
