My external hard drive is not an option when importing files Server-Windows

I have using Plex with my personal laptop being the storage for all media and using that as the hub of my server. Now i wanted to move it to my old computer and have all the media on an external hard drive. The problem im running in to is that when i try to add media to the server, the external hard drive is not selectable. I have searched all over for a solution to this but cant find it. Can anyone help with this?

Stop and restart Plex server using its task tray icon, after plugging in an additional drive.

Same thing for me.

My Windows box is not visible at all and I cannot add it - when I try, it shows me the HD on one of my Apple devices.

I have an external drive attached to my iMac - but it is not visible in Plex and I cannot add it.
