Cannot access local Plex when internet is down

I had some work done on my home internet service recently and part of that involved having no internet for a period of time. I fired up Plex using the Kodi plugin on my Sony TV, but it was unable to connect to the local Plex Server (running on a Synology NAS). I checked it with the Android TV Plex app as well as the iOS app on my iPhone and the results were all the same.

I get that some Plex services (like metadata refresh) won’t be available when the internet is down, but surely I should be able to connect from any device to a Plex Server on the same local network?

I never have any problem connecting locally when my internet is down.

I think it has to do with secure connections on your end. I have secure connections turned off.

Unless you are using remote access secure connections serve no real purpose anyway.

Try turning off secure connections on both your server and client and I think everything might work for you.

OK - that’s interesting. I do use remote connections, mainly for streaming music. If I disable secure connections is that going to prevent remote access?

I do not think so but it might make things less secure.

You might want to enable them when the Internet is up and disable them when the internet is down.
