Cannot access my server anymore

Hey,

I have had a Plex server setup with tons of content and data however I wanted to install a new machine too I accidentally moved the old plex server’s port away. Now the old server is gone from the picker and I cannot access it. I tried to modify Preferences.xml to change back the external port, but no luck.

I have tried to keep the port setting on custom and opened a local SSH forward from the 32400 port to the one I set by accident. Then upon accessing localhost:43000 (the custom port I used), the webinterface loads, but the server is not listed under devices. I think because it thinks its still connected. I don’t want to lose any of my data, but how can I reconnect it to my account?

How can I bring the server back without needing to lose any setting?

Thank you

Now I removed the server from the authorized devices and can see it again.

However it wants me to claim the server. If I click on that I lose the access. I think because the port is still set.

Solved!

Had to delete the pairing, the Preferences.xml and had to specify the customConnections flag in the newly generated Preferences so I could connect to it and pair it with my account and then after changing the port back.

Plex is a good software but often has serious bugs. This one took me a while to figure out as well.
