I have had this issue ever since I started using Plex years ago off and on, but now always. I’ve tried to solve it myself to no avail, and I eventually went to third party players because I was sick of it. The server works great (although I think the server is where the problem lies because I can’t get any of the players to work except for Plex Web).
Plex Web refuses to work at first until I allow insecure connections alhough I do not use Web, I just tested it to see if it would work. None of the players will work, not for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, PlayStation, etc. They all see the server, but there is nothing in it. The Apple TV player gives a clue as it says ‘no direct connection available’ which is crazy as they are on the same network. I have two friends who share their libraries with me and all players can see those fine which is another reason I think it’s the server. But I have uninstalled and reinstalled the server and I have went through the settings so many times, but it will not work.
This time I tried again because I just bought the HD Homerun Quadro, but ended up having to get a third party player so I could use it because these players cannot access my library even though it’s on the same network and about 30 feet away from me.
I have tried with the remote settings on. I have tried with the remote settings off. Another problem is that the remote settings do not like to stay on. If I try to use uPnP, it’ll state very briefly ‘Fully accessible outside your network’ but then that changes with 5 seconds. uPnP is on in the router. So, I manually did a port forward of 32400. It stays on better now, but a lot of times when I look into the server settings, it’s unavailable. (Since I’m forced to use 3rd party DLNA players, I don’t check the server that often). Internet upload speed is set at 1Mbps. I know that’s slow… welcome to the world of Windstream: 25M down, 1M up. But as this is just for local use until I move and can get a better ISP, I don’t know why the remote settings would have anything to do with it. I only bring it up because I can access everything remotely as long as the remote connections stays working! Just nothing locally.
Network settings are ‘Preferred’ for secured connections, and Enable local network discovery (GDM) is checked.
I have been over all this with my two friends who share their library with me and they are at a loss as well. They can also see my library and stream it (albeit very slowly because of my horrible uplink speed).
I have also had this problem over multiple versions of OSX/macOS (from El Capitan on) as well as 3 routers. I’m currently using the UniFi USG if that helps and current version of macOS is Catalina.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Scott
