Cannot add podcast by url

Recently upgraded to pass. Would love to integrate podcasts into Plex to have all my media in one place, but a number of podcasts failed to import from .opml export from my current app, and fail to install when manually added. Looks like this needs some work from Plex. A meaningful error message, at least, would be useful.

welp, I tried to post a new item about this with no response, let’s try added to this thread where folks have already been trying for a solution.

Still unable to get it to work

I’m having the same problem as everyone else and have been for a while. Here’s the most recent one I tried:

https://www.spreaker.com/show/2353475/episodes/feed

Also +1 to people who want to be able to log into podcasts (another Mysterious Universe subscriber here).

Same problem here, can’t add any podcasts…

5month + with “Something went wrong” without any reply?..

PLEX , MOVE PLEASE ! AN UNEXPECTED ERROR OCCURRED!

I’m also facing the same issue. Running the docker image of Plex Media Server 4.64.3 on unRAID.

Having the same issue, and reported via the above link. With so many people reporting the same thing, one would think that we could at least get some type of response.

I’m having this issue as well, with the following URL:

Exactly the same behaviour on web and iOS as others in this thread have documented. A fix would be appreciated.

Here’s another one that’s not working.

Is podcast support being abandoned by Plex? Should I start looking for alternatives? Kind of feels like it.

it would be nice to get an official response on this thread (unless I missed it somewhere). Plexamp is my primary music app on my phone and the podcast support seemed great at first, but of all the podcasts I want to listen to, I’ve only been able to successfully add ONE!

Not sure if it would help, but if you provide logs per Plex’s recommendations to isolate the process when adding one of the podcasts, they might be able to help more specifically. I’ve noticed much more reactionary help when people provide logs.

I am having the same issues everyone else is having with the following podcast.

You bring up a valid point about the logs, but I think that there’s not much to see on the consumer’s end. I went ahead & attempted to grab pertinent info from the logs (while trying user onenor’s feed example) and found:

    "type": "ajax",
    "url": "https://podcasts.provider.plex.tv/library/metadata/60996dc93226e60038e35df1?Accept-Language=en&includeConcerts=1&includeExtras=1&includeOnDeck=1&includePopularLeaves=1&includePreferences=1&includeChapters=1&includeStations=1&includeExternalMedia=1&asyncAugmentMetadata=1&asyncCheckFiles=1&asyncRefreshAnalysis=1&asyncRefreshLocalMediaAgent=1&X-Plex-Client-Identifier=b42jt5ejyjvu0xx0pqzmk9tz&X-Plex-Device-Screen-Resolution=1561x985%2C3840x2160&X-Plex-Version=4.29.2&X-Plex-Features=external-media&X-Plex-Client-Capabilities=protocols%3Dshoutcast%2Chttp-video%3BvideoDecoders%3Dh264%7Bprofile%3Ahigh%26resolution%3A2160%26level%3A52%7D%3BaudioDecoders%3Dmp3%2Caac%2Cdts%7Bbitrate%3A800000%26channels%3A2%7D%2Cac3%7Bbitrate%3A800000%26channels%3A2%7D&X-Plex-Product=Plex%20Media%20Player&X-Plex-Platform=Konvergo&X-Plex-Platform-Version=2.58.0.dev-ae73e074&X-Plex-Device=Linux&X-Plex-Device-Name=Frenzy&X-Plex-Model=unknown&X-Plex-Token=TOKEN&X-Plex-Language=en&X-Plex-Text-Format=html&X-Plex-Provider-Version=1.3&X-Plex-Drm=none",
    "status": 404,
    "headers": {
      "Accept-Language": "en",
      "Accept": "application/json"
    },
    "statusText": "error",
    "response": "{\"Error\":{\"statusCode\":404,\"error\":\"Not Found\",\"message\":\"Not Found\"}}",
    "time": "2021-09-10T14:21:27.809Z"

I messed with the URL after swapping in my actual TOKEN, and even tried removing all parameters but X-Plex-Token (doing so gives 401 Unauthorized), and always got 404. So, I think the problem is that the podcasts.provider.plex.tv service doesn’t know anything about a podcast with a GUID of 60996dc93226e60038e35df1. I speculate that this podcasts provider API has to index any podcasts that it doesn’t already know about, but, if that’s the case, it’d be nice to have it tell us “we’ll add it once we’ve found artwork & an episode guide” or something like that.

Furthermore, I’m in agreement with lots of other users here – we’ve had plenty of “me too” examples where it doesn’t work, but what we haven’t had is someone from Plex acknowledge the issue, and give any indication that it’s being worked on or a possible workaround.

I’m receiving the same something went wrong error when trying to add this podcast:

this is right on the nose. The log doesn’t really provide much of any information on why this is happening, but there’s been enough folks saying “I’m having this issue too” that I would have expected some kind of response to this thread at this point.

never used podcasts but wanted to try them today, tried to add 2 the James Bond: No Time to Die (it adds but is missing the new episodes only last years show)
https://feeds.acast.com/public/shows/697875d1-f00d-458c-a139-2b8da62ad352

Band of Brothers 20th Anniversary Podcast

neither will add/update and I don’t see anything in the log’s.

Any ideas?

Having the same issue with an anchor.fm url:

Do any plex employees have any updates? No other way to contact Plex “Support” or any way to submit a support ticket.

Don’t see much hope of Plex fixing this given how long it’s been ignored but thought I’d add my problem as well to the list:

Same issue as everyone above. Tried digging through logs but found nothing of any use.

Looking at the log, am I correct in assuming that when you give Plex a URL for the podcast you want to add, it actually goes through Plex’s servers to pull that podcast information down, rather than just connecting directly to the URLs in the RSS feed? Seems like the point of self-hosted would be to not have to rely on outside servers to get your content.

It isn’t being ignored we just not have found the root cause yet.
