Cannot cast to Plex players running 1.46.1.3056-ab91bdc0

Server Version#: 1.27.0.5897
Player Version#: 1.46.1.3056-ab91bdc0

I updated to the most recent player version and suddenly I can’t remotely control players of the same version on my LAN. I can verify my previous version (1.3#.#.####) still works, but the latest version is not. Not sure how to go about diagnosing this issue or if it’s a known bug.

The desktop app cannot be used as companion cast target anymore.

Oh, is there a reason why? I used that feature pretty heavily :frowning:

It was only there because that app shared some code with the TV app, which it does not anymore, so its implementation was spotty, and from what I was told only a small number of folks actually used it in the web or desktop apps.

Gotcha. I’ll try out Plex for HTPC and see how it does. Thank you for the info

Same here, no remote Players (Plex for Windows newest Version, also Server on Synology NAS) in local Network since last updates. My new HTPC now is useless. Comon Guys, this must be a bug, this was one of the best Features. FIX IT PLEASE!

Not gonna lie, I absolutely hate it when functionality is axed because “nobody used it”. This is why I don’t want apps to phone home lol. They start thinking that they know better than you do how you should be using it.

I was using this feature heavily, and this basically break my normal use of Plex. I did install Plex HTPC as suggested, but it doesn’t allow remote control of the audio volume, while the Plex app (before 1.46.1) allowed it, and I used that extensively.

So please add remote volume control to Plex HTPC (and Plex PS5 while you are at it).

Anyway to downgrade to Plex before 1.46.1 ? Then disable auto-updating ?

This royally sucks.

I use it all of the time. Plex HTPC is not optimized for a keyboard and mouse interface. And the tag support is awful in comparison. Has anyone tried playing their music with the HTPC client before making this decision? You can’t display most metadata like Plex for desktop. You also can’t make changes to your metadata (which was extremely handy). HTPC is only usable in a cookie-cutter HTPC environment and not for all Windows installations.

Unfortunately I have downgraded my client and disabled auto updating like everyone else.

Please re-enable this for Plex for desktop and then improve the HTPC client so people start using it for music.

Same crappy situation here. Why the hell take this feature away from Plex. I really can’t understand.

That is a terrible decision. I use that feature all the time, as do many others. Why remove the feature? Please return it. I don’t want to have to use the buggy HTPC version.

Gave HTPC a couple of weeks trial and it was awful. I could deal with the mouse/keyboard poor support, but I couldn’t deal with the player suddenly not receive inputs and the video playback was not reporting back to the server after a random amount of time.

Opened this ticket but seems like not enough people even cast to a HTPC player to respond

Decided to go the route of reverting to an earlier version and disabling autoupdates

Please return it! I need this feature and rely on it very much. I hate the HTPC version!

Any Plex employee can give a link to downgrade on macOS?

Plex HTPC 1.46.1 on macOS keeps crashing (by crashing, I mean becoming unresponsive and using 100% cpu).

I’m not even sure it’s legal to remove feature a user has paid for, without providing any method for re-installing a previous version.

This appears to break PlexAutoSkip :frowning:

Might have broken it on the web player too which used to work fine
