Plex Media Server is correctly configured with a valid Let’s Encrypt certificate. DNS points to the correct location. Loading Plex via its FQDN works like it should. The Chromecast icon is completely disabled; this is an intentional limitation of functionality by Plex developers.
I should be able to cast to devices from my own server, even if it is not signed in to plex.tv. This is vendor lock-in at its finest. Please change this behavior so that I can cast video to LAN devices even if I don’t have a Plex account.
Yes, else I couldn’t have stated that “loading Plex via its FQDN works like it should.”
Did you tell Plex to ignore the LAN IP of the Chromecast?
Yes, my whole LAN subnet is whitelisted.
Can I cast to the Chromecast from Chrome itself and from all my other devices on my LAN?
Yes.
If the server is unclaimed/not signed-in, is the Cast button enabled and simply pops up with “you cannot Cast without a secure connection to plex.tv”?
Yes.
Even if the server is claimed but Plex is loaded via IP address, is the Cast button enabled and simply pops up with a “you cannot Cast without a secure connection to plex.tv”?
Yes.
Even if the server is claimed and Plex is loaded over TLS via its FQDN, is the Cast button then disabled (the only time it is disabled)?
Also, one final question about the cert/fqdn. I presume it’s a Let’s Encrypt or other agency certified and your P12 does include the CA for Plex to authenicate with?
